Shepard's death was just a plot device to get her in the hands of Cerberus. It's not like it happened at the end of a game and we're left to believe she was dead for real.
Neo sacrificing his life to unite toasters and people in the conclusion of a series is a bit different.

I like how you say "her" when the male is the cannon version of Shepard.

Well, there's no real 'canon.' Each player's version is canon. The default male Shepard is just the poster boy for the game.

In my opinion, a new installment into the series is pointless, kinda like Reloaded and Revolutions. Yes, they were good but a sequel was not needed.
