I'm not going to deny that I didn't have similar reaction..we've been waiting for a new Tales game forever...and the fact that it appears to be a solid title - ahhhhhh can't wait!

I think we'll wait a while. They haven't even given us a year for the release =/

EDIT ABOUT DICE'S EDIT BELOW: I am amazed, a 90% denotes a pretty solid game. Considering the worst element being the music, which I can easily ignore (I only notice music if it's good, otherwise I don't even realize it's there), odds are good I shall enjoy it.

I seriously doubt over a year.  Is it that hard to translate stuff > develop?

On a side note.  Fuck wii-motes (the name is retarded enough), games should no be played on measly remotes.  So viva la PS3 who seem to ackowledge a good controller having not changed it in like 15 years.

EDIT: huh.  Tales forum not impressed with review thus far (despite the high rating).... fucking hell, eh?

If we have learned anything from the Tales forum goers in the past week is that they are never happy.Always complaining, wanting more, demanding more and trashing Namco every chance they get.I saw some reasonable people there this week but the whiners outnumber them 5:1

Anyway I enjoyed reading the review. The story won't be grand as I was hoping but the gameplay and beautiful art style already gets my 60$

I think we should name that the "Duke Nukem Forever Syndrome".

The Duke Nukem Forever Syndrome is manifested when fans in the gaming world await a game or a serie of game (either be it waiting for development or waiting for localization). As time progresses, the expectations climb higher and higher as the time spent waiting is assumed to be time for the makers to develop. As the gap progresses, the expectations usually climb higher than what a product can deliver. When the gap reaches too far, it is highly possible for the game to be met with hostility no matter how good it is as the expectations grew so much that only a game crafted by God himself could possibly satisfy the fans.

Perhaps FF titles should release information about a new title a month in advance of the release then.  Then they'll be back to their good ol' awesome selves. =)

Actually yes. Remember what Square said about FF13.

« Unfortunately, we were already quite far along in development, and knew it would be too late to implement most of the feedback from the player test sessions. »

If an early presentation of the game can help pinpoint the gamers' reaction. I'd say go for it.

Excellent review. And I agree, Sakuraba can't compose for shit. I could enjoy a cliche story, as long as the gameplay and overall experience are fun.

Still, I feel bad for the team doing the fan translation.

Yeah-huh. Certainly one of the worst we can find in the business.

I blame his collaborations with Tamura and Aoyama; solo, the man is one of the better ones to me with a great range of stylings.  I have a bit more of a bias for the fella, but to say he can't compose worth of shit is almost an insult given the quality.  Who knows, maybe Tales budgeting also makes him cheap out (I don't think I'm the only one to notice an obvious quality different between his Tales titles [er] and his work for Tri-Ace/Crescendo [especially])

People forget that he organized all the composers and composed all the extra tracks for the Smash Bros series. I consider Brawl to be one of the greatest soundtracks ever made. Sure, he didn't write most of it, but he arranged quite a bit of the best stuff and did a great job finding the right people to arrange different tracks. The guy's a legend, and game companies know it. He's worked with practically everyone. I can only imagine that he's extremely easy to collaberate with.

Thanks for proving my point. Let's just say that his music never clicked with me, and it got worse recently.

Edit: Ok, I'll admit that Silk Road in the Sky had potential, but it soon went into mediocrity-mode. It's the only track I can remember from The Last Hope's OST. Any composer can make good stuff every once in a while, especially one who's been composing for so long.

Fine, then that's a matter of personal taste by this point.

I thought both Baten Kaitos songs were very good, but otherwise I have to agree with Hell Snake. Those other songs were just awful IMO.

Sakuraba is not really a bad composer, is just that he never takes vacations. I still remember when all of those JRPGs for the 360 were being released, allmost all of them have the involvement of him in the music.

The only memorable being the one from Infinite Undiscovery.

Recently though, he did a good track for the "Dariusburst Remix Wonder World", the track is called "The Battle is Now in Progress".
