Hmmm, coming out a week later? Well, that's a LITTLE saner, though that doesn't change being a complete clusterfuck.

I've never played a YS game. Would this be a good place to start?

It doesn't really matter, but it IS the original two updated so it's a solid start. But if you don't like the battle system give it a second chance via Oath or Seven.

I'd get it if I didn't get the VC TG-CD version during Christmas time.

It's not a bad idea to do so anyways, this sounds like the definitive version of Ys I & II. Though that also probably depends on how much you enjoyed the VC one.

... But why did you get it when this was already announced then? Just missed it?

It was a gift. And I'll probably get it years down the line, but I'm not one to replay a game while I can still remember it, which means it'll take a few years before I'll be up to playing it again.

Then again, I played the Master System version before the VC version and still remembered the beginning at least.

Like Fadedsun, I am yet to play a Ys game. I hear I and II are not nearly as good as the later ones. What do you experts think?

I hear its the best version of Ys I and II.

If you plan on starting the Ys series, you can either go for Ys Seven (which is very different from its predecessors though it's a very good game) or you can go for Ys: The Oath in Felghana (it's a short game and in vein with the traditional Ys games, but it's fast-paced, fun, and replayable).

1 and 2 probably isn't the best place to start, as it may sour your view of the series.  It's not amazing, but not necessarily bad, either.

7 is a bit more in the vein of a traditional JRPG, so I'd probably say that's a good place to start.

I love the graphics in this. Very cool looking.

So many blood games. I'd love to support xseed here but this will have to wait.
