Legend of Zelda theme should be Japan's anthem
Imagine watching the olympics and some Japanese gold winner is up there crying to the Zelda theme...
I know it'd tug on my heartstrings

It is Japan. It would be the Dragon Quest fanfare theme.

The music for the D&D games was always good.

Barely anyone played it since it was a mediocre game, but it had an absolutely fantastic soundtrack.

The theme to Zillion on the master system. I sucked at that game (I was like 7?) but loved the fucking music.

I LOVE opening themes. A great opening musical piece had often got me through a game or anime series I disliked. Visual Novel OPs are usually my favourite. Especially the sad sounding ones. Here's some of my favourites
(that are safe for work)
!
Visual Novels
Clannad Opening Theme - Meg Mell (Eufonius)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI9fXifMYoY
ef-the first tale - Eternal Feather (Tenmon)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj3vMRwTzDQ
Chaos;Head Theme - Find the Blue (Itou Kanako)
Warning:
A bit of blood in this one. Nothing bad, just a heads up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD8FLiW_O8A
Little Busters! - Little Busters (Rita)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI9fXifMYoY
Anime
A few years back I actually uploaded a top 10 favourite anime openings to YouTube. It's pretty out of date now, but here they are anyway:
#10-6
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YOXTq4Uaoc
#5-1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMvurzRn8AM
Games
I could link the opening of Persona 3 & 4, but we've all seen those anyway, right? :P Of stuff I recently played, I quite like the Tales of Vesperia opening.
And here's a last one... (warning, it's, uhhhh, very "cutesy"). Another Visual Novel OP.

To the Baba Yetu haters: keep hatin'. Shit is hot no matter what you say.
Christopher Tin is currently nominated for not one but *two* grammy's. One for his CD "Calling All Dawns" (which is awesome: 12 songs, 12 different languages, totally solid musical ideas), and the other is for the live performance of Baba Yetu that VGL has been doing. That man is heroic.
(also, baba yetu's lyrics = the Lord's Prayer in Swahili)
My own contributions are very RPG-centric.
Liberi Fatali ~ FFVIII
Into the Wilderness ~ Wild Arms
Scars of Time ~ Chrono Cross
Angel's Fear ~ Secret of Mana
Twilight Illusion (or however you wanna translate it) ~ Atelier Iris Eternal Mana
Expressive/Singing Hill ~ Ar tonelico
Rondo of Light and Shadow ~ Lunar 2 (JP version prz)
That's a pretty good list right there. Not exhaustive, but totally awesome, yes.

It's about time you showed up, Pat! I was about to send you a message to ask for your input.
I KNEW I heard that Baba Yetu song before! It's on my video games live cd.
Another "duh" to me for forgetting the opening to FFVIII.
I like the Planescape: Torment music. I should really play that game.
