Edit: I just watched the video you posted, I had already figured out that trajectory by myself, what I'm asking is if there's a bonfire close to the entrance of the tomb of giants.
Did you watch the whole video? It shows you how to get to the first bonfire in the tomb of giants. There isn't one any closer than that. There's one more later on not that much further away. It just seems far because of the enemies on the way there.
Did anyone else know that Motoi Sakuraba did the soundtrack for this game? Weird! Not one bit of prog in here. I'm impressed.
The video ends as soon as he enters the tomb of giants. Am I missing something?

I keep hearing on NeoGaf and Gamefaqs how going over a certain level is "build breaking" and that you won`t get much PvP if you do so, but is there really any incentive to keep your character low level? I`m SL259 right now and I`ve been getting tons of PvP. Been camping at the entrance to Kiln of the First Flame for the past couple of days summoning other players and being summoned myself through the red sign. Getting about 5-7 matches an hour, quite a few forced invasions as well. Started NG++ today and was invaded five times in the first couple of hours(three times in Unded Burg and twice in Darkroot Basin).
I think high-level PvP is just plain more fun. It allows you to multi-class and really diversifies the PvP experience as you are no longer bound by stats limitations and can change your equipment and strategy to your liking at any time.
P.S. Of the last 25 players I played against in PvP there`s only one who`s not Japanese. How come so few outside of Japan play this online?

I was going to ask if there's a bonfire there, total darkness + narrow paths + tough enemies + arrows being shot at you from God knows where = pain in the ass.
There`re two bonfires in Tomb of the Giants, if I remember correctly. One should be shortly after you meet Patches. The place is a walk in the park after you find Skull Lantern.

So, I'm still using the drake sword but hear that some of the weapons I have can be more powerful if properly upgraded. Halbert, claymore, zweihander... which is the best of these?
Spear upgraded to Lightning Spear +4(+5 requires Titanite Slab which you most likely don`t have yet) - fast, drains very little stamina and deals a lot of damage. Black Knight Greatsword(a drop from the greatsword-wielding black knight on top of the tower not far from Hellkite Dragon; doesn`t always drop it though) - I took out Hellkite with it on my first playthough.

Yeah, it's been known for awhile... and frankly, anyone familiar enough with his music could probably spot it from far, far away, especially since some of it does sound like VP music (notably in Anor Londo). Wish they kept the composer from Demon's Souls, that was pretty good music and felt more distinctive.

And that means what? That only the Japanese would go for SLs in the hundreds? I don`t think so.

It might be more fun but that is also one of the main reasons of why there are parts in the game in where you can't go with your character revived online to certain areas. It doesn't help either that a lot people that likes to invade use the Ring of Fog, that's easily one of the worst items in the game.
It barely serve any purpose when you are not playing online. Is as annoying as the Situational Awareness booster in Uncharted 2 Multiplayer.

I've been leaving my character idle at bonfires just to let the estus flasks pile up while I do other things.
Bah, ran to the store and I'm still only at 7 flasks (up from 5). I wonder if that has a cap... you'd think there'd be hundreds of people kindling any given bonfire at any moment.

Thanks, that's pretty helpful, he says that people shouldn't use it before obtaining the lord vessel, I don't have it.
Ah, there's another video showing the way back up to reach the firelink shrine, guess I'll watch that one too. I have been avoiding relying on videos but some areas in this game just suck.

You need to go to Andor Londo for Lightning upgrades right? Haven't reached that are yet. I think I have that sword though, I'll have to check. Also got an axe from the black knight in the catacombs.
Edit: I don't have the sword.
So I reached the bonfire and got the skull lantern. Please tell me I can kill Patches now. I talked to him and got a good item but he'll probably drop something if I kill him, I just wanna make sure I don't miss out on anything by killing him now.

... They also had the game for three weeks longer and at that point it takes a lot longer to gain souls. It's like Tiamat said, a little longer and you'll probably have more non-Japanese. That, and the hour you play IS a factor that can't be ignored.

I was using the Ring of Fog for a little bit as I invaded for the Forest Convenant, but then I realized how annoying it actually is and stopped using it. Now I hate when people use it on me. I like fair fights and just want a normal PVP fight. Not some douche stabbing me in the back because I can't see or target him. Using the ring in normal play sucks too because you can barely see your own character, making it hard when walking around certain areas and fighting enemies.

Patches opens up a shop later in Firelink Shrine. Killing him will net you Crescent Axe, but it`s already among the items he sells, so killing him is still inadvisable. That is until you`ve purchased everything from him; after that he`s disposable.

High-level PvP is populated by soul dupers(evident from the hundreds of thousands of souls that so many players leave after being defeated). Everybody knows about the glitch at this point.

The folks running around with the Ring of Fog usually use it in combination with Tranquil Walk of Peace(the spell that slows down your opponent), a lightning/bleeding weapon and(sometimes) Acid Surge. Hopefully the ring and the slowdown spell are among the things that are getting fixed in the upcoming patch. The ring shouldn`t have any effects other than giving partial invisibility to the wearer and the spell shouldn`t last a whopping 30 seconds giving the person using it a decisive advantage over the opponent.

And you think they'd stop at Soul Level 200-some? With a high yield soul you can easily get much higher, even hit the cap in a relatively reasonable amount of time with Soul of a Great Hero or the final boss's (though I wouldn't do it without Square being held in). I guess some can be impatient, or dumb and never bother to try this with a more potent soul than Soul of Lost Undead, but I'm inclined to think 99% of the soul duping play is in the 600-700 range.

So I just learned the hard way that I can't progress past the tomb of the giants yet and had to backtrack. How was I supposed to know that? What kind of game design is this? I must've died a 100 times down there, first trying to get through and then trying to get out. At least I collected a ton of items since I ended up exploring every inch of that place.
Went back and killed the hydra, would've done it sooner if I had known it was that easy, at least it gave me a dragon scale to upgrade the drake sword.

Fuck it, I was so pissed off for having to backtrack to the firelink shrine that I just killed him to relieve some of the stress.
