That's on hardcore, didn't try it, just thinking about the frustration of losing several hours of progress... I love the game, I don't want to get frustrated to the point of hating it.

Little Big Adventure:

Got to the second island. Had to do some block pushing puzzle which was made needlessly tedious because of the terrible controls. On the second island I immediately died because enemies attacked me, even though I needed to run past them or something? Ran past them okay the second time, not really sure if that's what I was supposed to do. Talked to some random NPC in the town. They told me to kill a dude. I did. Everyone became friendly. Then some jackrabbit led me to the Astronomer for some reason. I have no idea what I'm doing and nothing about this feels professionally made.

I'm going back to my original notion that "must-play classic" is a codeword for "total shit."

I just beat 3rd Birthday. The ending was well uh I have no idea. But it had 2 naked girls hugging each other at one point so it wasn't all bad.

How was the game overall? It's been getting average to bad reviews.

The game itself was great. It mixed shooter combat and RPG developement quite nicely, but the story is just one big let down. If you haven't played the other PEs I'd definetly recommend it, but if you have played them then I'd advise you to tread cautiously cause the story will leave you with a bad aftertaste.

If square keeps killing their IP, what will they do?
God knows their new IP also went down the drain.

If they ever destroy the Chrono name *shakes fist*

Just had to go back for this. Namely to warn you to never play Chrono Cross.

That said, I finally acquired the last top weapon of DQIX. Now to find that last grotto boss for the Angel Robe and a top Ice map and then it's orb grinding ho.

Also, GODDAMN TITS!!! I keep wanting to farm your lovely SHINING PUFFS for the experience and the gobs of shinnies.

My chances of playing Call of Duty or whatever FPS exponentially increase after Calgary loses.

I better stock up on games for when our season ends. I expect it to be soon.
The season is over. Why haven't I stocked up?

Seriously though, did a bunch more of The 3rd Birthday. The story is still muddled, but overdive literally every fucking minute and you're golden. :P

I liked CC a hell of a lot more than CT, in the sense that I actually liked CC.

Hell, I wish I could go back in time and tell people not to play Chrono Cross! That shit would be fun, not to mention a worthy endeavor!

I actually enjoyed Chrono Cross. It wasn't the CT followup that people expected, but it was a fine game on its own. It had too many characters and the battle system was a little better in concept than execution, though.

I liked it too, I found the plot twist was an AMAZING follow-up to the original, shame it came as a clusterfuck at the bitter end.  I was keen on the battle system as well.  One thing I hated, plot-wise, was the pace.  If you can, try to explain *why* you went from one place to the next and you may give yourself a nonsense-headache.

It's a JRPG I don't really expect them to have coherent plot progressions by default. CT's one of those games that's more interesting in theory. It kind of loses a lot of its interest when you realize that the only unique feature is the combo system, and that there's rarely a compelling reason to actually use combos (and that in a lot of cases, using combos over single attacks will guarantee a loss).

I disagree. Chrono Trigger is great for a lot of reasons. Personally, the real treat is seeing the world at various stages of ruin. Even though the combo system isn't as well executed as it could've been, the great thing is that there are no penalties for not using it, whereas, in FFVIII for example, the draw system sucks because you have no other option.

My problem with the combo system was that you're actually better off not using it. In other words you're sort of penalized for using it.

Also there's no compelling reason to draw in combat in FFVIII outside of getting a few GFs. All of the spells you really want, except for Aura, can be produced be card or item refining within the first hour of the game, and there's never really a compelling reason to cast any spells except for Aura.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: There's no timer, so it's hard to say how far in I am, but I'm at 63% event completion. I'm having fun, even though it's definitely a flawed game. The dungeons are short (thank God), but they do get tedious sometimes. However, the cutscenes, the great dub and the spectacular 2D graphics more than make up for it.

Legend of Heroes II Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch: I refuse to play TiTS untill we know for sure that part 2 and 3 are coming, so I'm playing through the old LoH trilogy instead. I'm really liking the second (first) game. It's a very charming traditional (*very traditional*) JRPG with a simple, but effective story, and a very basic, but relatively fun battle system (it sort of reminds me of Lunar). I like the characters and the fact that it's one of those games that really make you feel like you're on a grand journey. I'm on chapter 3 and really having fun. The translation is bad (there are some words missing here and there, typos, etc.), although it's not Wild Arms 2 bad or even Final Fantasy VII bad. I mean, you know exactly what's going on and it's even occasionally funny, but it's just sort of bland and without much flair most of the time. In general, though, I don't think it really detracts from my enjoyment of the game. I'm definitely going to play through A Tear of Vermillion and the third game sooner rather than later.

Since this afternoon I apparently managed to put 8.5 hours into Mass Effect 2. I don't know if I'm addicted, insane, or both.

I still have a few more characters to recruit, and then everybody and their mother's loyalty mission plus the DLC. Other than Overlord, which I just finished. Being a completionist this may be a while yet.

I don't understand the argument that using the combo system in CT is worse than not using it. Slurp Kiss is an awesome heal-all spell and costs close to nothing. Some bosses require combo skills to beat them more effectively (Giga Gaia for instance, I always use Falcon Hit to get both of his hands at the same time). I dunno, maybe for grunts, using combos aren't necessary, but they were just fun to use too. Why would you NOT wanna use them?
