Tales of Xillia:
-Man does it take forever to do anything in this game. I'm sure I could be moving faster, but as someone who has to explore every nook and cranny, the new environment style can get kind of tedious. Still not sure if there's one Adrei-whose-it Treasure in each submap, but that's the theory I'm working with.
-Gotten used to Milla's VA to the point I find the lisp, intentional or not, kind of endearing. The battle theme, however, has not grown on me at all. There's a lot of VGM that I just don't care for, but this is the first piece I can recall actively disliking. It doesn't help that battles are so frequent. Every other minute "NANANA NA NA NAAAA! NANANA NA NA NAAAAA!"
-It may sound like I'm disappointed, but I just find it to be a great game with several noticeable flaws. But the potential is there for something amazing, and I'm sure once I have a full party and am introduced to everything the game has to offer I'll start enjoying it much more.
(For reference's sake, I just left Milla's Shrine heading back to her village)
I dig the exploring personally. I like it more than the static paths in Graces, and world maps are kinda whatever at this point.
A lot of the reviews Xillia has been getting (8's +) I think are a bit too high for it, but overall I think it's still a really stellar installment.
The plot is really, really magic-y which makes almost everything a McGuffin, Machina, or some sort of other plot device. Rowen making a "magic paper airplane" for example, or using magic to make tree-lamps and heal people.... Fuck science, MAGIC DOES IT ALL.
I like the battle system, not as much as Graces', but I like that it feels like there's a lot to do and everyone has some unique adjunct with some fun link-ups (definitely sucks that Milla and Jude, because of it, become prized priorities for it though).
Also, while I'm not crazy about either battle tune for Jude or Milla, I'll take Jude's electric riff than Milla's high-pitched violin.
And fuck it, I hate her voice. I'm kinda disappointed more than anything, because I think Minae has a great tone for Milla, but she just can't act.
