Drakengard...wow...that brings back many memories of getting my ass kicked, not sure I've ever died so much in a game

Nocturne is so tempting, but I really want to hack and slash my way through a disturbing story again. WHY IS LIFE FILLED WITH SO MANY HARD DECISIONS

Up to the sunken ship in Anvil of Dawn. Gonna play Ultima 8 for a bit though, I think.

Also I just remembered how creepily detailed the genitalia was on the wolves in FFXII,

I went to Gamestop for a sale and got 4 PS2 games for only $40. I got Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Dragon Quest VIII, Drakengard, and Drakengard 2. Too bad a friend of mine has the PS2 right now. I'll just have to wait till she returns it then.

Why in god's name did you get Drakengard 2? The gameplay is only marginally better than its (godawful) predecessor but all the dumb shit that the game pulls ruins that completely. Hell, the WTC factor that made the first game so playable in the first place has been substituted by a completely different WTC factor (namely in how fucking retarded the protagonists are in that game).

Take the game back (or sell it somewhere else), and read this instead.

All the reviews I read on it seemed more positive. I still want to play it though. I don't think I'll be taking it back anytime soon. Took me long enough to locate a store with both games in stock and another 20 minutes just to get a confirmation that they did have it.

I enjoyed Drakengard 2 though for what its worth I don't remember a thing about the main story except for the ridiculously stupid ending plot twist. It wasn't great in any sense of the word, but it was decent stupid fun. Though i completely hated Drakengard 1. You couldn't pay me to play that shit.

What if I were to tell you that unless you beat Drakengard by this Sunday, all the porn in the world would cease to exist*? *And more wouldn't be made.

Tried a bit more Etrian Odyssey, but got frustrated. There's a FOE on the third floor that I can't avoid but he's too tough to fight now. I guess I'll just finish mapping the second floor and see if I can complete some more quests to get new equipment.

It's all right, nothing special, just an okay game. Dragongard is still worth playing because it's so insane. The gameplay is monotonous, but the huge amount of crazy (and the awesome dragon) make it a memorable experience. Dragongard 2 is more like a paint by numbers JRPG with a 'hero' so unlikable you want to throw him off a bridge.

That's basically the tl;dr. Drakengard 1 is an awful Dynasty Warrior clone (save for the final battle on the ending E path) but the plot is batshit insane in a can and the characters are awful in the best ways. Drakengard 2 is a less awful Dynasty Warrior clone but the plot is pants on head retarded in a can and the characters are awful in the worst ways.

It's telling of just how awful the plot and the characters are when one of your party members is the head honcho of the antagonists of the previous game, that her objective now is exactly the same as it was in the previous game (though the motive has changed from unleashing unspeakable horrors to memory loss due to severe brain damage), and the reason why the main character has turned coat and joined her cause is solely mostly due to her T&A (the other reasons include being a dumb sap who falls for the first sob story he sees and because the leader of his former organization wants to put the retard down because he's an idiot with command over a fuck off dragon and left to his own devices will inevitably fuck something vital up royally (which he does)).

I kind of get it now. I could never finish 1 because it's gameplay was so awful. I guess not knowing the plot of the first game helps 2 seem better. Anyways I stand by my belief that 2 is better than one those I'm basing it off not really even caring about the story. I just thought combat was a decent diversion.

There's always a way to avoid fighting an FOE.

Beat Deus Ex. I don't know what to say. I supremely enjoyed the game, and will definitely replay it later. I missed a few sidequests, and of course want to see how the game plays out with some different choices made. The ending though...WHAT THE FUCK MAN!? They were definitely rushed. I watched all of them since it was literally a button press for each one (which honestly, I'm okay with since it "sort of" makes sense within the game, and I like that I don't have to play through the game 4 times to see them all). The implications for each ending were so big it would have been amazing to see a fully realized ending (even if the end of the game got crazy silly IMO). Hopefully there is more Deus Ex to come. And I'm definitely going to have to check out Deus Ex 1 now.

I also beat DXHR.... Lots to say, don't know where to start. Totally enjoyed the game, can't wait for the DLC. As for the endings.. I didn't hate them like everyone seems to, sure they could have been better, but there's a lot that I appreciate about them. But I'd rather go on about that elsewhere.

I hope there's more DLC after the Missing Link, too.

TRYING TO PLAY ULTIMA 8 BUT I KEEP DOING SHIT LIKE ACTIVATING MOLOTOVS IN TREASURE CHESTS AND THE RESULTS ARE PREDICTABLE.

Hopefully there is more Deus Ex to come. And I'm definitely going to have to check out Deus Ex 1 now.

I never actually beat DX1, but apparently its endings work the same way. Still, excellent game. Once you get past Liberty Island. It is seriously one of the worst opening areas in any game.

If you like DX, I would recommend the Ultima Underwold games and Arx Fatalis (which is sort of a lot smoother to play nowadays than UU, but UU has better stories). They have them on GOG I think. The Theif games are also sort of similar, and... I think you can get those anywhere.

And I'd also recommend System Shock 1 while giving a whole list of reasons why I thought 2 sucked*, except I'm p. sure you can't really by SS1 anywhere right now.

* tl;dr version? Lots of little things bugged me, but the main one was the skill system, which was mostly just there to fuck you up. In Deus Ex 1, skills were by and large nice little bonuses. In SS2, if you never take any weapon repair or maintenance levels, have fun using a wrench on everything.
