Calling it "yeez" sounds just as weird.  I take either spellings/pronunciations

It's suppose to sound like "ease" but people always invent funny words.

What is your PSN id? I want to trophy stalk you

NeuroVision

The name comes from this album if anyone is wondering.

Ys = ease.

Two E3s ago I tried (and failed) not to laugh at people who were pronouncing it 'Whys.' :P

When I type it I automatically put an ' in there... I don't know why.... but as for how it is pronounced, that is not really debatable... it is "ees" without a doubt... english dubbed anime proves it!-LoL

It's not pronounced 'ease'. The final sibilant in ease is voiced. The s in Ys is not.

Bingo!

I wasn't going to tell them, they just seemed to smug about thinking their pronunciation was right.

The game is phonetically "イース" or "iisu".  The last vowel sound there doesn't get pronounced in Japanese, so it's 'iis"  or "ease".

Man, Devil Survivor 2 seems horribly unbalanced to me. I'm on the Merak boss fight and I keep failing the stage, regardless of what I do. The previous story mission was fairly simple too.

I've never played one of these games, is that how they pronounce it in the translation as well?

Funny when Japanese gives the pronunciation away better than my mother tongue

I think the "bzzt" from MeshGear for saying "it's ease" is because when you say the word "Ease" in English, your final consonant is a soft s (or "z") sound. And that's not the case with Ys / Iisu. It's a hard ess sound at the end. Voiced consonants vs unvoiced consonants is what he's referring to, and he's right. He wasn't talking about the "silent u" typical in katakana.

When I tell people how to pronounce it, I usually pick a word that rhymes with it. "Like peace, but without the p" usually gets people where they need to be. ^_^
