Hey not to derail the topic, but I'm curious of everyone's opinions since I like you folks....

I'm not a hockey fan, but I dont have the NBA in Seattle anymore, and there's always rumors floating around of how the NBA could return here if we had the arena, which wouldn't be an issue if we also had an NHL team. So, that said, what are your thoughts on an NHL team in Seattle? Stupid? Excellent idea?

We have the fan-base (I know people that see the two minor league teams in the area with extreme regularity) and I know there are a couple teams that are in jeopardy of shutting down, so I think it'd be pretty cool. I'd be down for a few games a year, for sure. The NFL Ticket prices are nuts, and the M's are in the summer. I need SOMETHING to blow my money on during the colder seasons.

Seattle's pretty close to Vancouver which already has the Canucks. I wouldn't object to another team on our part of the West Coast, since I despise the Canucks anyway. I'm not sure if Seattle would really go for it or be able to support a team though, they never seemed like a burgeoning hockey market to me. Is there not a minor hockey team in the area though? Even if you can't get NHL, hockey is hockey to me.

I know you guys have a junior team - the Tri-City Americans, and sometimes WHL hockey can be more fun anyways. You get to see the excited 16-21 year olds BEFORE the egos set in. And tickets are hella cheap.

On the west side of the mountains we actually have two small market teams, the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Everett Silvertips. Both have a pretty rabid following.

I kinda agree with ya that Seattle may not have the support for an NHL team, but I thought the same thing with the Seattle Sounders in MLS and well.....the attendance on average is like 15k more people than the next highest team. So, while that may not be much because it IS Soccer, it still shows that Seattle loves their sports, we just arent rabidly addicted.

I always forget about the Thunderbirds. And yeah, the Silvertips are also WHL, I've seen them vs. the Giants in the playoffs.

It also depends on if there's demand for more hockey there, because you never really want to oversaturate the market. I imagine if you guys had just one of these 3 teams, or none at all, there'd probably be way more demand for an NHL team. But these teams seem pretty well established (and are far less expensive to have around).

Teemu Selanne is 40 years old.

Last night he had a hat trick and two assists.

Fact: Teemu Selanne is the best hockey player in the history of the world.

Following Johns Twitter is like watching the Sports News. Only it only ever talks about Hockey. Hockey played by some ducks apparently.

I'll be at the Flyers game tomorrow, despite the fact that the last 2 games I've attended this year they have failed to score any goals. So if they get shut out again, everybody will know whose fault it is. :-)

Put in Ray Emery!

He and Saku Koivu are the two things that will make me cheer for Anaheim.

Elsewhere in the playoffs: LOSE CANUCKS LOSE.
