Living in NYC all I hear about are how evil the cyclists are, and it is annoying. While occasionally I have to dodge an asshole riding his bike on the sidewalk (which is illegal FYI), I encounter more assholes in cars on a daily basis.
There's a growing opposition to bike lanes here because of propaganda that bikes are responsible for more injuries in the city each year than cars. The problem is, there are no figures on how many cycling injuries there are because the DOT doesn't keep those on file. The anti-cyclist crowd has raised such a stink that they will begin tallying those numbers, which is a good thing, but right now all these people in Park SLope are basically using the example of, "I know a guy who knows someone that was injured on a bike, which is why we don't need bike lanes."
That and they're just old.
