Anonymous responds to Sony's theft accusations with a definitive 'Nuh-Uh!'

There's some more drama if you want to keep reading more of this mess.

Quote
According to Spafford, security experts monitoring open Internet forums learned months ago that Sony was using outdated versions of the Apache Web server software, which "was unpatched and had no firewall installed." The issue was "reported in an open forum monitored by Sony employees" two to three months prior to the recent security breaches, said Spafford.

This needs to be emphasized further.  THEY HAD NO FIREWALL INSTALLED.

According to the Playstation Blog Sony is going to be offering everyone who had a PSN account a year of free identity theft protection services through Debix, Inc.  That seems like a nice gesture, but I don't know anything about Debix.  I hope this isn't one of those things that you get the first year free but they auto-bill you for the second unless you go through hoops to cancel it...

Given how many people this will affect it'll undoubtedly be clear how good they are and if they'll pull that kind of bullshit.

Want to know my favorite part part of this whole debacle? As compensation to DCUO, Sony is giving away batman masks. Now, some of you might be asking, how does this fix the problem in the slightest?

To which I answer: why does Batman wear a mask? To protect his secret identity.

"We will be offering PSN users the opportunity to select two PS3 games from a list of five, as well as offering PSP users the opportunity to choose two games from a list of four," writes Sony Computer Entertainment Europe communications head Nick Caplin. "We will let you know exactly what games are available very soon."

Check out this comment on kotaku:

Ugh. This upsets me so much. I want to GIVE Sony some money, not vice versa. They deserved none of this.

He's serious.

Fuck yeah. I have 3 accounts. I can probably download all these games. I hope they're stuff I want.

Also that commentor on Kotaku is crazy. WTF he could have his CC info stolen and he's saying he should be paying Sony. WUT?

You know, Kotaku wasn't this stupid before they redesign their site.

It's nice to try to find a single scapegoat like that, but knowing the way the internet is that simply isn't true. Even if you play the angle of their stories rather than just the comments, because I know they've published a few unwise articles such as spoiling the post-credits twist of MGS4 in their excitement for the game/desire to pull in hits.
