If you could go back in time and grab yourself by the shoulders at the moment when you 1st fell in love w/ games as a kid and say
"Lo! Look unto the future of games, and despair because when I leave you shall have to keep playing DynoWarz: Destruction of Spondylus"
and then show you a game to blow your mind what would it be?
I think I'd take God of War 3. That would probably have made my glasses shatter because I would've found it so awesome. 1st of all, it's basically a relative of the side scrolling nes beat em ups. wave of baddies and then some bosses. But the epic scale, incredible graphics, fast combat, and FUCKING TITS would have shocked me into a coma so deep I'd still be in it.
Second choice would be ME1. As a kid I was even more into scifi than I am now. Besides the awesome graphics, the story, conversations, and codex library would've hit home.

I've always thought about this question -- but with movies.
Id' love to take like Lord of the Rings or Tron (both CGI fests of different genres) and wow an audience in the 1950's haha
No idea otherwise. I'd actually have rather answered this with movies, games got too good too quick. And I still play a few old titles. x)

Most of my favorite games are 'old'. I wouldn't want to ruin my childhood gaming memories by exposing myself to the flashy but shallow crap they make today ;)

Honestly, I think I might go with my iPod Touch and show "me" something on it like Solomon's Keep or even Street Fighter 4. Because "I" would be blown away by that (I'm 36), but not overwhelmed by it, either.
If I thought "I" could handle it, I would go with something like inFamous, because I have always loved superpower stuff, and that game looked great and was extremely fun to play. But I remember how I felt playing the demo - you had a bunch of powers, and it was overwhelming. Then I think back to the Atari and NES days, and the difference between those controllers and a PS3 controller, and I think that if I showed inFamous to me as a kid, it'd be too much to take.
Aw, who knows - maybe I'm not giving "me" enough credit. :)

Devil May Cry, SMT (maybe the less dark ones and where you don't eat your enemies)... whatever I like that isn't too gory, violent, confusing etc.
Actually, anything Katamari would have kept me younger!me occupied for a while.

Depending on how far back (let's say early to mid 90s) I think I'd bring along... one of the Dragon Quest remakes, probably V. Show that, yes, RPGs other than FF can be damn good, plus technically it wouldn't even be a game that didn't exist, just a shinier version of one that does.
Honestly I think of this more about movies, TV shows, and books, and largely because I discovered them long after they were produced, IE Twin Peaks.

I'd show 11-year-old me (who just played Chrono Trigger and FFVI) Chrono Cross and FFXIII and say "this year was the best year of your gaming life. Enjoy it."
And then I'd show him Persona 3 Portable and say "this game is awesome but you wouldn't understand why. Go back to youth group."

I'd drag myself to the park and be like "Games are bullshit, go become Johnny Motherfucking Appleseed."
Alternatively, Super Meat Boy.

Dark Cloud 2
I would have been inspired to play the guitar and the violin much earlier.
Also take up drawing as a hobby.
