I have seen Disgaea adds, reviews, pictures and lots of other things for Disgaea, and I have yet to play it.

I really want to get it, but I don't have the money at the moment.

Has anyone else here, played it. You're thoughts...?

I have it.

I hate it.

I'm the only one here who feels that way. :P

No...I hate it as well, which is why I recently sold it on CAG.

Dull, boring gameplay.

DR: I can't stand Disgaea either.

You're not nearly as alone as you think.

The only thing keeping me playing the game was Flonne and all the wacky humor. Without the writing I'd have dropped it faster than a psycho bitch girlfriend. :P

Well, yes, I liked the characters. I've never seen anything as tedious as the item world in any game before.

I put about 50 hours into it and got bored. It was decent, but not enough to keep me leveling my characters and weapons 'til level 999.

I sold it to a friend for $40. I wonder if he even played it?

It's actually one of the few SRPGs I can stand. Mainly because of the fun characters, humourous events, and simple storyline.

But yeah, like Ash, I probably would have given up on it if it weren't for those things.

Yeah. It's a good thing that you were never forced to play it, to progress with the main storyline. I never had the patience for it. :P

Well, maybe I just suck at the game then, because I was always going into the item world to level up my items and characters so I could beat the missions.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just lucky. I mean, I finished Xenosaga Ep1 without ever buying any equipment, because I was stupid and I didn't know equipment was sold in the same stores as items... In fact, because of that, I thought equipment was only found. I never bothered to scroll left or right at all. :P

... Yup... I'm pretty dumb.

the thing i hate nippon ichi games is how they force you to constantly relevel characters.from the ones i've played disgaea and makai kingdom are the biggest offenders of this.

While I never owned it, I played it at a friends house a bunch of times and, like a lot of the other people here, enjoyed the story, writing, and characters very much. Unfortunately I could never get my hands on a copy. In preparation for the second I "acquired" the 12 episode anime which covers the story in a very similar fashion to how it appears in the game, give or take a few details (and it just so happened that I enjoyed the anime in the process).

The second Disgaea is coming out soon and is supposed to be easier than the first, so if you weren't in the mood too plop down a large sum of money to play the first/don't have the time to spend on the game, you could always check a plot summary or the anime and then grab the second when it comes out later this month.

Personally, I loved the game. I'm not too big of a SRPG fan, but this is one of the few that I've actually stuck with, and I enjoyed it thoroughly to the end.
This was probably due to the fact that the characters were so zany, and the dialogue was so damn hillarious. I mean, I have yet to play a game that is nearly as funny as Disgaea. Horse's Weiner, anyone?

I enjoyed the game, it had nice fast combat that no other game's got, and I thought it was pretty funny. Nevertheless, I can't stand playing any other NIS SRPG, so I'd say get this and ignore the rest. Possibly even the sequel.
