Just played a few levels on the PC and I'm blown away. Seriously blown away. I can't believe that after all the crappy games they finally delivered such a gem. Phisycs aren't identical, specially underwater, but I'm not going to nitpick.
Game looks great running at silky smooth 60 fps. Beuatiful art, the levels are just like you'd expect them to be with modern graphics. I'm glad they didn't mess with the music. The remixes in the hub level are nice though.
God, I wish I could send this back in time to my 14 year old self. I probably would've died from a heart attack but at least I would've died happy lol. On second thought, that would be a time paradox...

Is there a demo for the PC or 3DS version? I couldn't find one on Steam or the Nintendo E-Shop.
If it'll hold Jello, Utah will put Jello in it.

3DS version isn't out yet.

How come the PC version runs at 60FPS but not the PS3 version?

It's running on more powerful hardware that is several years newer, if they wanted the console versions to run at that frame rate they'd have to compromise on the visuals.

Is that a serious question? Every game runs at 60 fps on PC if you have the required hardware.

Because the PS3 is 5 year old hardware that was meant to be a (vaguely) affordable game machine compared to a computer. Seriously almost every console game in the last few years is a 60 FPS PC game on competent hardware, it either has to be really cutting edge or an epically terrible port to not be that, and the former can roughly look like it does on consoles while being at 60 FPS once you hack away at settings.

Sorry? I don't game on a PC, so yes, it was a serious question. No need to make me feel stupid because I don't know that. It doesn't seem like Sonic Generations is a very powerful game graphics wise, so I didn't understand why it shouldn't run at 60FPS on the PS3.

It's actually a pretty impressive game. At 1080p with AA enabled it's quite the looker.

It's rare for a game to run at 60 FPS on a console. Most games run at 30, IIRC.

Most console games these days have an average frame-rate of 25 or less if you want to be realistic. Developers are squeezing them so much in an attempt to show a graphical evolution over their previous games that it's gotten to a point where there's no other way out except to sacrifice performance and/or resolution. When it becomes acceptable to release games with frame-rates like the one found in crysis 2 just so you can throw in some more smoke and mirrors to make it look pretty, you know the time for new hardware has come.

Anyway, this game has a decent amount of content. Every stage has a ton of challenges and I like that you can use the music you unlock on any level. Loved the casino night pinball machine as well. You can't help but wish for some of your favorite stages that weren't included, in my case that would be starlight zone, ice cap, lava reef, hidrocity, the list is endless lol...

Yeah, everytime I got to that level I just stopped playing for 10 minutes or more just to concentrate on the music.
Ice cap was also amazing, specially act 2.
What about flying battery? God tier.

You guys have sold me on this, but it's going to have to wait in line. Way too many games to play/buy. Glad to hear the music is good, too. That's a pretty important point for me.

Just picked it up today and beat it within a matter of 4-5ish hours. Best 5 hours of 2011 hands down. The only real let down was the final boss fight. The mechanics for it were rather wonky and it's impossible to see the rings. They might as well be invisible so you better pray you have the best of luck. I plan on replaying the heck out of this thing for some casual trophy collecting as it's the perfect game to relax to. Shame classic Sonic didn't have many roles in this game though. :-\ Two of the three boss fights and the same ratio of rival battles are all modern Sonic. Talk about favoritism. XP Could've at least alternated that 2/3rds on one part and come out with an even 3/6 split.

And to heck with Sega for not giving us a collectors edition; so I made my own. XD Bought 13 of the comic archive books (Issues #1-50, the only ones that matter), Sonic Mega Collection +, included it alongside my SatAM box set and had a chili dog for dinner. That is how you celebrate the blue blur's anniversary. ^_~
