Vita, really? Surprised they aren't pushing for an ios launch.

You're in luck!

PSO 2 announced for iOS!!!

http://andriasang.com/con0dx/pso2_detailed/

But more importantly, it is FREE TO PLAY! :-D

That's great... if it is actually released outside of Japan or has an English option.

I'd only been lightly following news on PSO2 until recently.  Just played around with the character creator and benchmark tester and I'm in love!  As if SW:TOR hasn't been taking up a lot of my time already...o_O;

Honestly, if they didn't expand much on the PSO model it'd be a bit of a ripoff for it to be a P2P game, especially considering the kind of support Sega tends to provide.

...you do have a point there. I was kinda hoping for a game with a big world to explore, but that's not something the first two games even bothered doing. PSO's always been more action than exploration.

I've been playing in Japanese, and it's awesome. I'm really excited that it's getting an English release.

A buddy of mine said it best...

Now we don't have to wait for japan to be ahead of us in content, we'll start a year behind!

I'd have said you should at least save that for launch... but given that could be a mess nevermind, enjoy your happiest day.

Annnnnnnd PSO2 is already hacked to the point of being unable.to advance quests regarding npcs....

http://m.kotaku.com/5925366/phantasy-star-online-2-hacked-as-an-alleged-prank

Short version is allegedly non-jp players have adjusted npc locations to unreachable areas, such as behind walls and windows, in the air, out of sight and so on. Being that the game works on a quest system for progression, not being able to interract with some npcs results in the inability to finish quests and not advance to new locations. Sega has banned 75 accounts regarding this and rmt in game....in a free to play game. So yeah, Sega is on the ball, though they haven't fixed the issue as of yet.

So that western release is REALLY looking promising now.

Either these guys hitting it now are getting the worst of it out of the way, or we're in for a very rough launch.

Been playing Phantasy Star Online games since the Japanese release in December 2000.  This is pretty much business as usual.  This isn't an online RPG problem.  Sega is in their own special category.  They've shown an inability to deal with these issues for over a decade, and they've never fully supported a non-Japanese territory properly.

It's going to get extra lulzy for the game.  Broomop & Gang will ruin this one just like all the others.  Game's been out for a week and they're already causing problems.

Sucks man, I was almost looking forward to it. I mean hell, even the PSUpedia guys were enjoying it now. They're as bitter as parn is about Resident Evil games.
