Since I'm one of the unlucky lucky ones to have a 20 GB launch model that hasn't RROD'd yet. With the switch to the new disc format it might not be able to read them. So Microsoft is offering a replacement consoles to people with outdated consoles.

I have to say what Sony is offering for the PSN outage is nice, but goddamn this is AWESOME if it's true. Saves me the trouble of needing to buy a new a one, and it'll take that scrap heap off my hands as well. FUCK YEAH. Now i don't have to only have one game installed at a time well if this is true of course.

Well it has to be part of that update. If MS considers it the fault of their update, they will send you a new one.Otherwise you might not be so "unlucky"

That's why I say might. Just wait and see what happens, I guess. Either way this is definitely good news. I have nothing to lose over this, and only a nice new 360 S to gain. So whatever happens happens. Though I will definitely be ecstatic if I am getting a new 360 S.

Interesting, ive got a really old 20GB model, bought it 2nd hand after my first 2 died.
Is there any batch numbers or anything to see how old it is?

As Laz said I think you just have to wait and see what the update does.

Next to the serial number is a year. The year determines what model you got.I have the 2005 launch model and the 2010 Slim.

If you can't ready discs following the new update, ask for a new one.

Awesome, hope you get it.

It doesn't seem like you play a lot of xbox games but having to put up w/ 20gb for all those years has to be infuriating. I have the 60gb and it sucks dick, constantly managing what games are installed.

Having 100+ DA:O saves doesn't help either

Yeah I usually go with PS3 games since my PS3 is 80 GB, and 2 years younger, but if this works out I can see myself buying most mulitplatform games on 360.

Never had a 360, but I'm waiting for a price drop on the 250 GB one.

Hopefully this means I wont have to wait for the price drop. *prays to Haruhi that her 360 wont read discs tomorrow*

Just a thought, didn't an older update allow any USB HDD to be used? ive thought about plugging in an external drive and installing all my games but never tried it.
Maybe if my games still work I dont need to upgrade anyway.

I think it only allowed small capacity drives.

IIRC, you could use any capacity, but it formatted it in a way that only let you use 16gb of it no matter what.

Yeah, it's 16 GB.  The limitation is to drive sales of the internal hard drives which are stupidly overpriced.
