On the game? Yes.  On the story? No.

The choices at the beginning determine what your Denam's base stats are.

On that subject, the newly released artbook still has it as Denim, yet pretty much every other name (except one or two) has the new names.

I can't really take a protagonist named "Denim" seriously, though.
