I avoided black ops because MW3 was inevitable, and also the reviews weren't so hot on the single player... and also I'm not buying a COD game every year.

That being said I've had tons of fun w/ MW1 and 2, but Bad Company 2 also tickled me something awful. So I'll probably get MW3 and B3.

The trailers always make these games look better than they really are.

Here's the first review in the world:

Campaign is fast paced and has great production values but the plot doesn't make any sense and it's extremely short. You are probably buying this because of the multiplayer though and in this mode you can expect all the usual features and the typical COD gameplay you love so much.

Digital Foundry Face-Off:

The PC version is the one to get if you have a good gaming PC. Between the consoles, the 360 version is superior to the PS3 version which is 960x544 and drops more frames than people buy copies of the game.

MS announces that the map packs are timed exclusives. PS3 owners get pissed because they have to wait months for the new maps.

CoD4's plot is fine - I actually really enjoyed it. It's my favourite CoD and one of my favourite shooters.

MW2 was fun, but too short of a campaign and the plot was less impressive and a bit jumbled. (Will MW3 pull off a No Russian?)

Black Ops had an interesting twist. I kind of saw it coming but everyone seemed so... surprised. Really you guys? You didn't see/hear the many hints?

As for the multiplayer, you gotta enjoy it while you can before the 12 year olds and hackers show up. Open lobbies before their bedtimes are all kinds of...special cesspools.

...I'll probably get MW3. Always preferred Infinity Ward over Treyarch, let's see if that holds up even without West and Zampella. Plus I still want to kill Makarov.

For all of the Activision hate, they do have a hell of a marketing department. I love the Black Ops TV ad and the map pack trailers. Commercials are supposed to make the game look good anyway - I still love the Infamy trailer for MW2.

Let's just hope they don't pull another "THE FUCKING NUMBERS WHAT DO THEY MEAN" bullshit story out of the bag.  Keep it real, don't go sci-fi and do a good job recreating some famous places from around the globe and I'll be happy.

Thoughts?

I wonder if they'll eventually end up introducing subscriber only perks such weapons, armors, and other perks that might give someone a leg up on someone who does not subscribe?
