This is a very nice birthday gift! Actually, I'm not the biggest fan of shmups, but this is such a legendary import that it'd be great to finally check it out.

When is your birthday,Eusis?

For a second I was confused why the Guardian Heroes description said 12 players until the Multiplayer mode- then I remembered it had a versus mode.

Radiant Silvergun was the technology showcase title for the Sega Saturn.  It's one of the few 32-bit era titles incorporating 3D effects that still look decent even today.

I like how they kept the Saturn's sound and effects intact.

And we have so much stuff to toggle, so I can also make it look like a Saturn game still! Kinda curious to see how it compares on a CRT between the two, unless this is letterboxed on those anyway.

Anyways, played a bit and enjoyed it, I like the EXP idea for story mode since it means I can get better the more often I retry.

I'm loving the story mode, I also agree how I can come back into the game after a game over with my experience still there to get better.  I'm sure hardcore shmup fans hate that idea.  Most would say if you die, start over with default settings.  Well, I don't care, RS is epic and I had to listen to the amazing soundtrack from Sakimoto for many years just imagining how this game was.  I refused to see much gameplay from it since 1998.

Love this game. The achievements and HD res are just icing.

The 360 controller on the other hand...yuck.

Someone hand me a control with 6 buttons again for this.
