So I just got involved in Y's Chronicles... I can see why so many people are of the love it or hate it pursuasion....I for one am a big fan already, however I must say.... the boss in the abandoned mines (Y's Chronicles 1) was one of the most "tear your hair out" type bosses I've fought in a game in a long time! Holy-hell man, I NEVER check faqs or guides for fear of spoilers but I had no choice because I thought some glitch was preventing me from hitting the bastard..... After finding out that wasn't the problem, it still took 4 valiant efforts to beat em.... I love walking away from a boss battle feeling like I actually accomplished something worth doing in real life.... Oh how I have yearned for soooo long for this type of straightforward-old-school-gameplay and the ridiculously unbalanced difficulties of old that go along with it :) Reminds me of my youth...

I died more at Tales of Vesperia early wolf-boss (at the hill place) more than I did the final boss.  Wild Arms 3's final boss was mental and had some nasty killing requirements for each of it's, something like, 13 forms, one of which would *restart* the battle.

Lunar had pretty solid bosses in general.

Some of Xenogears' bosses were pretty tough, if I recall correctly.

All I have to say is Legend of Legaia....the Delilias.

Yeah, generally past the halfway point most bosses could combo one character on your team for an instant kill, but something about the delilias always made the game seem unfair, forcing you to overlevel for that extra hp boost.

I dont know why, but in all the star oceans, there is a point where the entire universe of the game decides to go up like 20 levels ahead of you. Like in the 3rd one when you first encounter the "angels" they are super beefed up and I had to just let my party die out and take them on by myself until I leveled up like 20 times and then slowly built up my team. The bosses werent that hard but that part of the game almost ruined it for me.

Xenogears had some craazy fights. Any SMT game, pretty much.

Xenosaga III almost lived up to XG's difficulty during some fights. Almost.

I totally second that! Borgan was one of the most difficult trials of my youth!! LoL!! No seriously.... I remember trying to beat him religously each morning before the bus came to pick me up for school some odd 15 years ago.... The memories still haunt me.

Probably one of the worst final bosses ever in my opinion that thing was such a bastard.

Shadow Yukiko (as well as her dungeon) was inexplicably hard unless you did tons of grinding before you fought her, then returned home for healing. Although as a first boss, she's way better than P3's first. I beat that chick by spamming Double Fangs with an Auto-Tarukaja (or whatever the name of the spell is) Berith two or three times.

Better yet... Ruby come out to say Zophar is weaker than Borgan.... And it is the truth probably lol.   Amd yes, Borgan was nerfed seriously for Saturn and psx release.

Vay. Wind Elemental Boss.

That is all.

Speaking of Vay, I'm surprised that RPGFan doesn't have a review for the iPhone version of this game.

That boss made me quit playing the game and move on to Oath in Felghana. I can understand the appeal of challenging bosses, but not the appeal of poorly designed and stupidly cheap bosses. You would think when they remade the game that they would have updated that type of stuff. It's not fun, it's just torture. More power to you if you enjoy torture.
