"No plans" for new Saga or Mana games

Square Enix held an investors meeting in Japan where Yoichi Wada (President), Keiji Honda (Executive Vice President), and Yosuke Matsuda (CFO) answered audience questions.

One attendee asked if there were any plans for the Mana or, as its known in Japan, Seiken Densetsu series. Plans are for more ports of Mana and SaGa series games, but starting a new series based on those franchises are not being considered at this time.

(And we're not even getting the ports.)

The PSX era Square was just as good as the SNES era and the PS2 era was still pretty darned good too. The problem is that the company crumbled with the current gen (barring a few titles).

But yeah, don't understand how they can't make a good Mana title (I liked LoM). It seems like the perfect series for today's interests since it's an action oriented RPG. And it's multiplayer! Wouldn't it be cool to be able to play online with your friends like in Badlands?

Because of that HORRIBLE DISGUSTINGLY PAINFUL Dawn of Mana, I doubt a new mana title will ever come to fruition.

Also, I'd love a new SaGa Frontier. Was one of my favorite fuck around games. I always enjoyed getting bored, starting a T-260 file and massacring everything possible.

They crumbled once Gooch left. Wada has driven them into the ground.

It makes sense. SE want every title to be this blockbuster event and frankly, none of those games really fit that bill. The good news is that plenty of other companies are bringing JRPGs over that don't suck, though Atlus is usually involved somewhere.

The more promising RPG that is going to be released by Square Enix this year is Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The most compelling JRPGs put on consoles this generation are made by Mistwalker.

Dragon Quest 10 will be on a console I gave up on last year.

Kingdom Hearts will get milked on lazy handheld versions for the next 3 years.

Final Fantasy 15 will get announced,delayed,released and slammed in the reviews before I see a new trailer of Versus XIII.

Square Enix is really having fun with their epic failure.
