Supreme Court rules that video games are protected speech

7-2 decision.  While I was always fairly confident that they would make the right decision it is nice to see common sense prevail.  The dissenting opinion was more about how free speech applies to minors than whether or not video games shoudl be protected speech.

Good news.


"Video games secured the same retail status afforded to books and films in the US today."
"This country has no tradition of specifically restricting children's access to depictions of violence," read the court's ruling, which was 7-2 in favour of the EMA."

And Leland Yee still wants to fight to get it legislated. I'd be surprised if anyone would actually support it now however.
