I actually didn't look at the scores, I typically don't, I read the reviews and gather stuff from that.

Keep doing that! :P I put a lot of thought into the scores I give, but my review is always going to reflect my opinion better than the score.

Stay at his side, inbetween his legs. His bubbles and volcano power thing won't hit you from there. When he turns round to face you, don't move at all. If you move his claws will hit you. Now that he his facing you, you can attack him 6 times (Which is two knock backs), rinse repeat.

I spent....an entire day doing that boss. Personally, I found him the hardest in the game.

Unghhhh... Silent Church...

I have to bring some magic in, but what to kill first... the floaty bat eyes?  The Jellyfish?  Will I have enough to take out the giant ice-bomb?

I read an awesome quote on SA's forums... "The real Chantelise starts here" .. or is it begins?  Either way, this game has some hidden depth!

Well, the ice bomb (seriously, Square should sue) only spawns if you get too close. So making sure everything is dead before that point is a good idea. I think running around like mad, dodging his icicles long enough to destroy the floaty eyes is a good idea. Their knockback effect can get you in a lot of bother.

Heck yeah...

So, just before reading your post, Star, I tried the time attack mode as a way to practice (turns out you get to keep the loot) and realized that he doesn't spawn 'til you get close.  That, and I finally bought the blue crystal, which provides a frickin' area of effect attack.

I accumulated 3 red magic before I got to the ice-bomb (yes, extremely similar to the Squaresoft bomb) and the multi-hit casting killed it... I was done in 1:21.  Crazy how fast shit can turn around.

I had problems with the Ice dude too and more or less did the same thing Fei. After dying a few times I was just "fuck this" and farmed 6 red gems from the skeletons outside the church and he died with the first cast. This game is hard in pretty much all the right ways, sorta like Megaman, it's hard until you figure it out and then you're just having fun.

I never considered myself a gamer who was good at action games, but I seem to have had a much easier experience than other players. I got stuck at the crab boss for a day, but I got past it and it was all gravy from there. I'm shocked that Chantelise is receiving such a low reception, I don't think it's that bad.

GamePro gives it 2 stars , RPGamer gave it 2.5. Though I know that Sam from RPGamer had a really rough time with Chantelise.

EDIT: I was just speaking to Andrew Dice from Carpe Fulgur. My reviewable copy had a bug in it and money didn't drop, like, at all. I played this game under the assumption that selling little gold statues was the only way to get money. D:

It's all my fault, I was given the patch before I started, I just didn't see that part. x.x
