Wtf is wrong with my 360 controller?
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:07:10 PM »
I'm playing ME1 on my 360 with a wireless controller.

I've double and triple checked the level of my batteries. They are not dead.

When I'm running around and exploring, the controller is fine.

Every (and I mean every) time I go into combat, whether on foot or in the Mako, my controller repeatedly disconnects. As is I will start shooting, it will disconnect, I reconnect it and it disconnects again two seconds later. It is making my game unplayable and it is fucking rage inducing. But it only happens when I go into combat. Wtf is going on?

Maybe the antenna is going? It does sound similar to the Sixaxis my brother got with his PS3, where it'd not recognize input and just act as if the last input was still active, IE going forward. Could also just be interference of some sort, so the safest route is to buy a wired controller.

Yeah, this happened to me with Castlevania.  It disconnected like 6 times during the eagle bossfight on the roof (and always right during the part where he would throw the eggs).

The only thing that fixed it was new batteries.  It has been fine since.

I've replaced the batteries once already, and the controller is two months old, so the antenna shouldn't be going.

It's maddening!

Try another controller if you can, or look for possible sources of interference. I doubt you'd be doing something like running a Microwave between the console and yourself, but it's worth seeing what else can screw up a signal.

I've got other consoles in the room but none of them are on at the same time, and my modem isn't wireless either. I was thinking about that earlier, but I drew a blank about what could be interfering.

Lard, i've had similiar problems with an older 360 wireless, there was crud in the battery terminal of the detachable caddy that holds the batteries.

IDK otherwise

I was thinking about that but I'll have to try it with other games to see if it does the same thing.

I believe I found the source of your problem. That controller is plugged into an X-Box 360.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
I do actually know what could be causing it though. This wouldn't happen to occur when your controller starts to or should be vibrating, right?
Chances are, that something in the pad is little loose and during the vibration loses connection for a split second. Sadly, unless you happen to be one of the people who likes to tinker with electronics and has the right tools and know-how, fixing it yourself will be a pain.

Someone else I know suggested that, I'll have to double check it. Thanks.
