FF:MQ -- Confession Time

Totally random topic:  How many of you actually liked Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest?

I've been playing it again, and personally, I don't see why it gets such hefty amounts of criticism.  Is it simplistic and a little childish compared to more "adult" RPGs?  Heck yea... But the same complaint can be levelled against the main FF series as well.

It's corny, but I enjoyed it when it came out (I was also 9 though). Honestly, while easy and some of the design is dumbed down compared to the vast majority of games, there's some things I liked about it - the action commands and being able to see the enemies, even though they never moved. Some games, like Atelier Iris and BoF, seemed to have taken notes from this game given their own titles action commands and the like.

It wasn't a great game, but I love it for the nostalgia.  Me and my buds played it when it was new, and doing it together makes me love the game to this day. =)

I liked it for what it was, but then I was 11 and didn't know any better.  If you ignore the fact it's pretty much one long dungeon romp with pretty much no time spent on characterization or plot, it's ok.  Some of the music was pretty decent.  In terms of a western RPG in the console RPG style, it's probably my favorite other than Anachronox, so...not that there are a whole lot of western RPGs made in that mold. :p

I was unimpressed. Sorry, but after coming off Final Fantasy II to something like MQ I had a hard time even getting anywhere in that game. In fact, all I remember is a terribly boring battle at the beginning of the game.

I remember the music being pretty decent.  I actually played it for quiet a bit before I lost interest.  It was all right, just nothing I could ever force myself to finish.

Yeah, I've never really understood why people foam at the fucking mouth when they talk about this game.  I enjoyed it just fine.  It didn't exactly reinvent the wheel, but it was fun for what it was.

While not the greatest of all time, it was simple and cute.  I found the music rather catchy and the whole game was pretty light-hearted compared to other RPGs of the time.  I think that's nice in its own way.

I enjoyed it a lot myself. Though, it probably helped that it was one of my first RPGs. It also probably helps that I'm not such a big nitpicker either. :P But yeah, I still replay every now and then, up to this day. Still a very enjoyable game, IMO.

It was my first RPG and I replay it almost every year, so I kinda like it. Though that is mostly the nostalgia speaking. I would never recommend the game to anyone.

But even without the nostalgic element, I think the music is really neat.

There were plenty of awesome songs in the game.

To me, the characters were very memorable.

The game froze on me a few times when I was a kid, in that first ice dungeon where you use cat claws to climb walls. I didn't like that.

I personally love the game. Haven't played it in probably...a decade, though.

I beat the game in a weekend rental...i felt very unsatisfied, especially after coming down from FFIV and Secret of Mana.

Yeah I got to the game a little later than I did others, but....man it was just crap compared to everything else out at the time. Kinda like Ephemeral Fantasia for the PS2. Tell me I am wrong.
