Strategy RPG of the Year: Console - Nothing!
In the past decade we've seen a sudden rise in popularity of the SRPG subgenre, with games like the Nippon Ichi line, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, and most recently the excellent Valkyria Chronicles showing us just what SRPGs have to offer when they're at their best. Currently, however, more SRPGs are making their way to handheld consoles instead of home consoles; even Valkyria Chronicles' sequel is being developed exclusively for the PSP. Unfortunately, the only SRPG released on consoles this year - Cross Edge - was subpar at best, and by subpar I mean that the disc has more productive uses as a coaster or frisbee than in my PS3. Since we're not giving an award to a terrible game just for showing up, there will be no SRPG Game of the Year for 2010. Sorry, Idea Factory, NO SOUP FOR YOU!
