There's a reason why we call it a "traditional" RPG, and that reason is simple: it has been so long established that we're just accustomed to it. With that said, there's always something said about going for such a customary battle system – it's typical. It doesn't break the mold of what we've been used to: the turn based battle system is what we started growing up on with RPGs, so any time a series can advance and make it feel fresh and innovative it deserves a round of applause and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story does just that. Sure, you pick your action ahead of time, but you choose from a variety of options along with timing your button presses perfectly to inflict the most damage possible on an enemy. Whether you're stomping on enemies, using a shell like a soccer ball to kick back and forth at them, or simply deciding it's "hammer time" and knocking the living daylights out of them, you're having fun. After that, you end up having even more fun with the timed counterattacks to throw back at them. With gameplay that you lets you not only take control of Mario & Luigi, but also villain Bowser, you really get a good variety of attacks and dungeons. When you're Mario & Luigi you'll be kicking it out on the inside of Bowser in an array of unique dungeons. When you're Bowser, you're living life in the actual world experiencing the wondrous scenery we all love from the Mario games. One thing is clear - Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story may not be the epitome of "traditional" due to its innovative gameplay, but one thing is for certain: it won't let a true RPG fan down.
