For many, Shepard's story began on the Xbox 360, and with its frumpy controller in hand, those gamers embarked on a startlingly powerful trilogy of science-fiction wonder. Thus, when the second game was released, many continued Shepherd's story on that same console, and for many his home will always be there. Middle entries in trilogies are often compromised by filler or lack of narrative drive. Not so with Mass Effect 2. Impressive visuals, atmospheric music, a great cast of characters, improved gunplay, and all the trappings of a classic science-fiction story, ME 2 goes beyond all this to deliver one of the most affective and personal experiences in video game history.
