Best Graphic Adventure of 2014: Awarded to the best adventure game, narrative game, visual novel, or point & clicker.
I still don't know what Danganronpa means (maybe someone can enlighten me?), but I do know why it was voted as the best graphic adventure game this year. What happens when you lock students who are the best-of-the-best at what they do permanently inside a school and subject them to the whims of a robotic teddy bear? Turns out you get a thrilling murder mystery story with a bit of sci-fi for good measure. Danganronpa's crazy (to say the least) cast are fantastic characters, and not once could I predict where the story would head next. Throw in some Phoenix Wright-styled court case shenanigans (where the accused is executed) and exploration, and Danganronpa is impossible to put down. The abstract visual style only aids the black humour in creating a chilling and unsettling world. Dangranonpa is a game not to be missed.
Season 2 picks up right where 1 left off, and watching the transformation of young Clementine into a fierce survivor continues to enthrall gamers in a way few titles can properly manage. A strong central villain and some difficult decisions round out an experience that leaves you yearning for the following episode just to find out what will happen next, and the ending leaves a lot of questions unanswered and many potential paths to tread. We're all excited to see where Telltale takes us next.
