Best Port or Re-Release of 2014: Awarded to the best overall game from a previous year that was updated for a new release within the past year.
Presumably, any time a developer ports a game to a new platform for re-release, they feel like they've got a strong property that people will want to play again. And yet, through either laziness or timidity to make actual updates to the games, some ports end up coming across as weaker than the originals, and they look and feel dated. Not so with Kingdom Hearts II.5 HD ReMIX, which features not just one but two outstanding games, both with upgraded visuals, but also with upgraded music. And on top of all of that, they didn't make us play re:Coded again. They truly do care.
It used to be that gamers had to pay super high prices for rare video games that never saw a lot of love on retail shelves. Thankfully, we're seeing some smart moves from developers in terms of game preservation, and Valkyria Chronicles' rerelease on Steam shows that Sega (and, hopefully, other publishers) are listening to their fans. With fantastic support for the new platform and a wonderful tale to tell, Valkyria Chronicles stands ready to find a new group of people who missed out on it when it first came out on the PlayStation 3. Now you have no excuse to ignore this one!
