The world of Undertale is openly hostile to its human protagonist. With each new area, there are more ghosts, dogs, knights, robots, and other non-humans eager to kill you for the good of their kingdom of monsters. But not Sans. An eccentric, sweatshirt-wearing skeleton who enjoys puns and drinking ketchup straight from the bottle, Sans is the main character's ally for unclear reasons; you'll have to dig deep into Undertale's secrets in multiple playthroughs if you want to understand Sans' motives. Sans definitely knows more than he lets on, and somehow feels it every time Undertale saves, resets, or glitches (really). Based on the player's actions, the laid-back skeleton's attitude and dialog vary from lighthearted to grim, but are always slightly absurd. For standing out as a truly memorable character in one of the most unique RPGs in years, Sans wins RPGFan's prize for the best NPC of 2015. He's probably over at Grillby's right now for a pint. Of ketchup.

Honestly, is it possible to dislike magical girls? Ciri is a kickass Witcher on the run and fully deserving of her own game. The segments of The Witcher 3 where you play as Ciri are loaded with story as you begin to unravel the mysteries of this white-haired young woman. Geralt spends the whole game chasing after her to protect her, but you soon find out that she is more than capable of fending for herself. The Witcher 3 is really Ciri's story, and although CD Projekt has said the game marks the end of Geralt's trilogy, I would be more than happy to play a new game starring Ciri. "The Witcheress!"

While Ciri was far and away your winner, with more than double the votes of any other character, Edna from Tales of Zestiria and Sans from Undertale tied, and were within 5 votes of taking the runner-up position.
