So... hi. You probably noticed there was no Monday update. Oh, and for those who check it, no new topic was posted on Friday either. The topic thing was an oversight on my, er... our parts, but by the time I realized it, we were kinda sorta without a computer. We took it in to get some RAM installed Friday afternoon. This particular RAM slot is in a no-no area, and getting to it requires taking things apart, voiding warranties, and other not good stuff; this is why I stupidly trusted Comp, er... a nameless computer store to install it for me. Sadly, their 'done in a day' thing isn't exactly true... Come Sunday, I ended up having to call down there (as nobody was calling me) and asking what was going on. Sure enough, my assumptions that they'd look at the OTHER (differently-sized) RAM slot, and decide the upgrade couldn't be done. I explained that there's TWO slots, and asked why the tech couldn't understand that, as I'd said that when I dropped it off. He said he'd call back. About an hour and 15 minutes later (and less than 2 before closing), I called back, got a half-hearted apology, and said to expect a call back for real, within 20 minutes. Forty minutes went by, then 50... 7 rolled around, and they closed, me never getting a call back. So yesterday afternoon, I went in, got the 'It didn't fit' story again, and was given my computer back, without a refund of my money of course. So, going over to the display Macs, I checked out my iMac's specs on Apple's site, and sure enough, the internal slot IS 168-pin. So I printed out the specs and shoved them in the tech person's face. Suddenly he remembered, gasp, he was thinking of the OTHER iMac there, that only had 2 144-pin slots (though those models have 168 as well...). How convenient. So they took it back, and I got it back this afternoon, RAM installed.
It was a long and annoying weekend, but I'm here with a sweet 512 megs of RAM, so I'll live. By the way, Schala's doing most of today's update again. Be nice, or I'll hunt you down like a duck. (movie quote!)
|Repetitive gameplay? Try PSO, not FFX.
Hey Chrono, this is my firsrt time sending a letter to ya, even though I've been wanting to for a pretty long time. Er..now that im done with that, I'll get to the point, I think a great sequal would be one for Shadow Hearts. I thought that game was a great break from the sometimes repetitive gameplay of Final Fantasy 10. I'm now re-playing it and it's just as good as it was the firsdt time around. So...yeah...umm...I guess that's all i got to say really...so bye!!
kid with red and black spikey hair =)
Aww, and I just commented on that game in my last update. If the whole thing's as cool as the 20-40 minutes I played, then I'd want a sequel too... depending on the ending of course. :P FFX from what I saw didn't look all that repetitive... I thought there were some interesting puzzles, items to find and leveling up to do. :P But I guess playing 100+ hours of it may get old after a while... maybe.
|Xenosaga is my God... for now.
Hey... Do you guys like Dark Cloud?
Because I am beginning to think I am the only one who does. My fiend's stopped liking it when all their swords started heading down the same path. We assumed that in the end they all became the Heaven's Cloud, or whatever it is called.
But I thought it was very fun. I stayed up till the sun went down playing it. Meaning: Sun went down, Sun came up, Sun went down, hehe. That is one of the requirements for a great game, in my book. Had I finished playing it, I'm sure it would have met at least a few more requirements to be a Great. Like Maximo, Chrono Trigger (but not Chrono Cross), FFVII, FFVI(III), all the Zelda games, all the 2d Sonic the Hedgehog games, Sonic 3D (is that right? The Saturn one)... Oh, and the top of the list: Secret of Evermore.
Anyway. Getting the talking Slingshot was cool. But I accidentally killed it and added it to a different one. Heh.
So what was the theme this time? Most looked forward to? Easy: Metroid Prime and the Cube versions of the Resident Evil series are tied.
-Marcus, the title-less
PS: The CUBE is your god, all Xboxes will bow to it's supremacy! (But the PS2 can be a sovereign nation)
Meet my clever comment. Isn't it sexy?
I can't comment on Dark Cloud. :P However I've probably played all my games for that long, or would if I had my way. Maybe I just have good taste or something. As for Metroid, I'm sure I'd be looking forward to it after I go and beat all the other Metroid games. But even though I can't say I'm a Metroid fan (yet), I'm still sick of hearing people call Metroid Prime a shooter. And Resident Evil looks really good... especially that big spider. I'm not sure if I wanna play it... but a copy is going to be in this house anyways, so I'd at least like to see it.
Clever comment? Uh... sure. I guess I just don't like to bother arguing whether which system is best.
Like I said in my last letter, I love your site. I'm writing in regards to something I've been thinking about for quite awhile. Squaresoft has always been my favorite gaming company of all time. (Nintendo following in a close second.) Ever since I played FF3/6 on the Super NES, I was hooked on Square. So, naturally, I pretty much bought anything they made.( but not before reading reviews) Well, last Christmas they did it again. They had hyped up FFX for so long I was searching around the internet every day looking to see if any sites had new information on it. I was also one of the first people to slap down my $10 for a preorder and was one of the lucky few who received the game on Dec. 18. Even though I beat it in less than 2 months, it was a great game. FFX aside, I was thinking about something I think has been mentioned in the mailbag before. What if Square decided to bring all it's best main characters from its best RPGs and put them into one game. It could be called Squaresoft Adventures. I mean how great would it be if you had Chrono, Cloud, and Locke all in one party battling it out with monsters from various Sqauresoft games. And the possibilities of all their attack moves combining into one big combo would be as fantantastic as it was devastating. Also, a great storyline combining elements from each of the games could be incorporated into one great plot. Or they could make a completely new one. Look at what they did with Kingdom Hearts. Music of course would be composed by none other than Nobuo Uemetsu and the ever popular Mitsuda. (If that's how you spell their names). In any case, the idea of such a game is something really cool and would really make a lot of money in my opinion. Well, until next time, keep up the good work on your site.
P.S. I know it's been a REALLY long time, but why did you guys ever get rid of your video section? I loved it considering most of the really good videos were from games I never even played lol. I always wondered what happened to it.
Your letter sounded a lot like me, until the 'beating FFX in 2 months' part... because I bought the game for someone else. I'd kind of like so see something similar, not that I think it'd actually happen. The most interesting thing I'd like to see are triple techs (or hey, depending on how many characters are allowed in a party, quadruple techs!)... though I guess that's the same idea as you suggested. I wonder what a triple tech between Tifa, Ayla and Sabin would be like. I'm not sure about the story bit though... if you were to have characters from so many different games, it'd be hard to combine various stories into one... but then characters could always talk about the past or something or recall some memories. Mitsuda music's always a plus, too.
We took our movie section down due to lack of bandwidth, plain and simple. Be nice if we can get them back up though.
|Lesson for the day: Buy DDR pads at a store, not eBay.
As I cannot determine which of you will respond to this message, it will be like #rpgfan stats, you are one person. Anyway:
Sequel game: See Prequel post. Fallout.
I'd simply like to say that piracy has been rearing its ugly head on eBay. After ordering a non-slip DDR pad, i received an automatic email. In this email, the seller offered to sell copies of the DDR games for $8 each. This simply made me sick. I will not mention the seller's name, for his sake. People, games are expensive for a reason sometimes. We just have to live with the prices, or live without the games.
Well, Chrono and I haven't totally fused... that'd be too weird. I dunno if I wanna be him anyway... he's a Mac freak! Oh wait...
Actually, I bet games are getting expensive partly because of said piracy... the same could be said for software (or music and movies, though I haven't seen CD's or DVD's go up in price yet...). And yeah, games are expensive for a reason, such as importing costs... I don't import often, but sometimes the high price is worth it. Such as my beloved Xenosaga LE box. And usually, you'd be able to sniff out these kinds of sellers on eBay... either by the item description, or by their feedback... always check a seller's feedback!
|Just when you thought people didn't want more ports...
Do u know any of the Squaresoft games coming out for the GBA? Also, is there the slightest chance of Mario RPG and Secret of Mana being re-released for the GBA? I think they would sell pretty well. Oh, and also could there be a possibility of Chrono Trigger and Earthbound coming out? I mean they DID remake the first two Breath of Fire games, so why not remake these titles as well? I won't even ask about any Final Fantasy game remakes for the GBA cuz the odds are it IS going to be made, but I do also wat to know when are they going to release a GBA Zelda game. Thanks for ur answers
I can't even remember how many people ask if Mario RPG and/or SoM will come out on GBA. Nor can I count the number of people who somehow think I possess the ability to read Square's mind and announce their GBA plans past Final Fantasy Tactics. Same for CT. Anyway, Breath of Fire is a bad comparison, since those are made by Capcom, where EarthBound would be a Nintendo decision, and CT/etc. Square's. But hey, Nintendo has been re-releasing the original Mario games, so you never know. And Zelda... who knows.
|Hey, Chrono's not nasty... he's just weird!
Schala, dear, sweet, beautiful, intoxicating, smells really good when wearing purfume on a sunday afternoon while enjoying a kiwi Schala. How ya doin'? Or am I about to get a nasty surprise and this is going to be Chrono? Honestly you two need to decide who responds when so this wont happen! OooooOoOOooOooooh the humanity! Did you get a load of that guy who listed all his rpgs? What an uber-geek! mwuahaha! (I think he's trying to compensate for something) hehe :-) Anyway, enough of that, it's time to get down to business. If it takes a chicken and a half, a day and half to lay an egg and a half how long does it take the same chicken sitting on a glass doorknob to hatch out a hardware store? But lemme get serious on you for a minute. Who would win in a fight, General Leo from FF6 or Frog from Chrono Trigger? They both have the military training going on, they're both handy with a sword...It's a tough one to call! What do you think?
You know you're starting to sound like JiJi right? And scaring me in the process? Okay, as long as that's clear and you promise not to do it again, I shall grace you with my presence more. Usually we're both here, so it doesn't get decided until we're ready to write the update, really. And I think many men are trying to compensate for a lack of something, they just all have different ways of doing it, be it cars, computers, game collection, afro... but that's enough man-bashing for tonight's column. Maybe I'm a CT whore but I'd go for Frog... he does learn quite a few techs throughout CT... and he's lived through a lot too. He's a pretty impressive swordsman for, well, a frog.
|Oh Lord, not again.

and answering your topic id love to see more Dizzy games. why did they stop making them? bye!
Okay first off, this column isn't for comparing RPG collections and claiming who's the best or Lord or whatever. Who cares?! There is no best. Eh... maybe that's a little blunt. Maybe it's a guy thing and I don't get it, but whatever. So anyway, that's the second and last time I'm posting anyone's RPG collection. Though I do have a couple of things to say... one, I'm surprised that both who sent in their RPG collections said they didn't like FFT. Two, that you didn't comment on more games, like, say, Legend of Legaia for example. Plus you don't own Super Mario RPG... what's up with that?
1) Is zelda an Rpg?
2) What is your favourite Snes rpg?
3) Is Schala pretty?
4) In your opinion will the GCN make it?
5) Are you impressed with the current line-up for GCN for this year?
6) I think you should make an RPG, you are very intelligent and i think you can pull it off.
7) I think Schala needs a month of to play those unopened rpgs she has.
- Kevin Greaves
1) Well, more action-RPG, but still RPG enough for us to cover it.
2) Chrono Trigger, naturally.
4) I'm not sure... I know it'll stick around awhile (it IS Nintendo), though I'm not sure how it will stack up to the PS2, until a better selection of games start coming out for it. Although, in my opinion, the PS2 took awhile to really get a nice library of games, so give the GCN about a year too, and it should do well.
5) Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime... Yeah, I'm more than satisfied. Hopefully they won't be delayed too much and will actually MAKE this year.
6) Er... I dunno about that. :P I'd like to play RPG Maker 2000, but it's not exactly Mac-friendly, and I'm not about to buy a PC, or VirtualPC, to play it. Maybe I'll pick up the PS2 one this summer...
7) A month off? She's had like...four. :P Don't worry, I'll make her play them all, and then some.
Yay, another update done. Now, we promise we won't have the computer sitting at Comp--- er, a computer store that shall remain unnamed, taking 4 days to install something as simple as RAM. So yes, the next update shall be in time, plus look for a new topic as well.
~ Schala (firstname.lastname@example.org)
