Lookie, lookie, it's yet another substitute Mailbag host. I, the great Daniel, have seen fit to leave the comfy confines of the Fanfic Cave and grace you fine people with sensible letters and almost sensible replies. Don't expect me to be as great a Mailbag host as Liz is, though...expect me to be 1000 times greater.

Let's do this.

It's hard to beat a singing sharpshooter.

Okay well I'm not a gamer extraordinaire but I'm pretty sure I had my glasses on when I looked at the new screenshots/artwork for Xenosaga Ep2. They look more human in my opinion and less anime-ish. Which I think looks nicer...I'm just wondering why they didn't want to do that on the first game. I was just making sure I wasn't the only one who noticed. o.o

As far as graphics go FFX-2 is looking nice. I've downloaded the OP to watch Yuna singing and I'd really rather they didn't make the song into English. Mostly because, unless they change the graphics, Yuna's mouth is moving to the Japanese lyrics. Well that and I think it would just sound nicer in Japanese. I don't really know about the whole Lulu being pregnant thing...she doesn't look any different from FFX and I didn't really see much Wakka/Lulu bonding in FFX. She seemed pretty set against being with him. She seemed to care for him but I thought it was only in a brotherly way. There's also supposed to be 3 different types of ending for FFX-2. I think no matter what I hear I'm still going to buy it so I can play it myself and see what Square has come up with to clear all the Yuna/Tidus shtuff out. But who exactly is Lenne? From what I've looked up Yuna seems to be hearing a lot of rumors about a chick looking really close to her and she doesn't really meet her til bout! half way through the game.

Also I was wondering if the following games (listed in alphabetical order) are games that you can only import and I shall never ever see in English.

Xbox
- Brave Knight
- Ex-Chaser
-Gaia Blade
- Innocent Tears
- Shenmue 2
- Sudeki
- Tenerezza

PS2
- Angelique Trois
- Only You
- Orphen
- Ys 1 and 2 Eternal Story

PSOne
> -Suikogaiden 1 and 2
Thanks for your time! ^_^

Personally, I like the new look to the Episode II characters. Realism is always a plus in my book. However, I'm not so sure the boys over at Monolith should have made such a drastic change. After all, Episode II is a direct sequel to Episode I. One would expect the characters to look exactly the same, with the exception of clothing, perhaps. Time will tell, I guess. Hopefully they will give the battle system a similar overhaul....

I agree, FFX-2 does look nice. From what I hear, though, that's the only good thing about the game. I'm not one to drool over scantily clad video game characters, so I'm probably not the target audience for this game. And I can tell you from personal experience that the music is as sub-par as you can get. I'll probably end up getting the game, though, since I get great pleasure from mocking failure.

As for your last question, I'm not sure about most of those games. I don't have an XBox, so I can't tell you anything about that. I do remember an Orphen game avaliable for the PS2 around its launch, but you may be talking about a more recent game. I know for certain that the Suikogaidens aren't avaliable over here and will most likely never be.

SEPIROHT!!!11

Hey Liz,

........Squaresoft.....must...suffer.....Sephiroth....needs.....his...own.....game.....**falls over with insane Sephiroth mimic laughter and then stands back up, twirling a plastic copy of the Masamune**

Squaresoft must suffer for eternity for never giving Sephiroth his own light to shine as the playable main character in an FF7 Branch off, or at least a game where he cuts Cloud's head off.....

**more mimic laughter**

Why am I telling you this? Because Liz can use telepathic abilities UnkNOwN to man to make Squaresoft submit....

**more mimic laughter**

Until then, I will be performing a seek-and-destroy mission on all of Square-Enix.....

**more mimic laughter, well not really destroy, but fantasize anyways!**

While this may not be my section, seeing a letter from a Sephiroth fanboy makes me feel right at home.

Sephiroth needs his own game just as much as I need a sharp blow to the head with a golf club. At least you have this new FFVII movie to tide you over, though. Hopefully they won't screw up the established story too badly.

I feel an anti anti-3D rant coming over me.

I dont have much to say. like Mr. Richer did, so ill be brief.

I can honestly say that Suikoden III didnt have the feel as the first two. In my opinion, Suikoden I was and still is the best of the 3 basically beacuse of its music and plot. Suikoden 2 was pretty good animation wise, but the plot didnt pull me in as much. And 3 was just.. hmm.. This doesnt feel like a Suikoden title only because the battle system was highly altered.

I Think the biggest mistake for the 3rd title was the fact it was turned into a 3D world. Alot of rpgs are doing these changes when its the next sequel. For instance Breath of fire series was in 2D & BOF III & IV using a combo of both. BOFV completly changed into 3D world, making the game worse. I didnt even attempt to buy it. Same thing with Grandia. the first one was amazing.. then to where as Grandia Xtreme is a dungeon crawler.. Basically what im saying is, The original title for each of these series were perfect. Going back to suikoden. The game has wonderful music and such a plot, this was game that kept me wanting to play it over and over and OVER again.

Since Suikoden 4 was just announced, I highly doubt the game would go back to 2D. I believe konami should take opinions from fans to see how this game can be developed better than the 3rd title (Im sure its too late for this now ;)) The arranged music for Genso Suikoden was great.. even the Select Arranged music for suikoden III in some of the albums were awesome.

In the end, the Suikoden series is something every rpg fan should play.. I mean everyone. Suikoden III went into a bad Turn. I'm hoping the next installment would play alot more like Suikoden I,Battle system and all. And I also hope games like the Grandia & the BOF series improve if were to have next installments.. Rpgs like these cannot be ended this way. Creators of the games should go back to the roots of the original titles and use some of the elements from there and use it in a new chapter for their series. After all, thats what sequels should be about right?...

Okay, let me see if I understand you correctly. You think that because Dragon Quarter was totally 3D, it completely and totally sucks? So much that you aren't even willing to try it? That's just insane. I can understand not liking the artistic style or the change in gameplay, but it's just stupid to mindlessly bash a game for using 3D. Listen to me: a game doesn't crash and burn solely due to it being 3D. Likewise, a game isn't awe-inspiring simply because it's a 2D game. A good game is a good game, regardless of its dimensions. If you can't appreciate that fact, then there's no hope for you.

I will agree with you on Suikoden III, though...to an extent. I certainly don't believe that the move to 3D had a damn thing to do with it being the weakest in the series. From what I've heard, key people behind the Suikoden series quit Konami during the development of this game. The reason it doesn't feel like a Suikoden game is because it wasn't completely made by these said people. It's still a great game, though. I enjoyed it much more the second time through than I did the first time.

That is a ton of questions....

Whats upppers

I finally got my hands on Lunar silver story complete its a great game. I cant wait to play part 2.Do you know if they are making a part 3. Do you know why they replaced Yasunori Matsuda with that chick from Hack to make the music for xenosaga ep. 2. I think this was a bad move for Namco because he was going to take game music to another level. Well no since crying over spilled milk. Do you know why they are taking such a long time localizing star ocean 3 does it have anything to do with the bug they found in the Japanese version. Final Fantasy XII better be something that sets it apart from all of its brothers or Squenix might lose fans to other great rpg series like Xenosaga .What I am hearing is Final Fantasy XI is not that good and is really expensive. Have you played Hack. Hack mutation is hard compared to the first one. I need to level up my characters and buy new equipment but I am lazy when it comes to that game. I have to be in a certain mood to play that game.

Lunar 3? Haven't heard a thing about it.

I'm not sure why they would replace Mitsuda. The only thing I can figure is that there was a clash in schedules or something. And I am not a fan of Yuki Kajiura's work, so I'm not particularly looking forward to this game's OST.

Final Fantasy XI isn't all that expensive by MMORPG standards. Just buy the game, pay the monthly fee, and play to your heart's content. That's standard operating procedure.

Nothing beats a blatant lie.

Dearest RPGamer,

Haha, just wanted to say that. Anyways, the manager at my nearest Gamestop told me he recently saw a playable demo of Legend of Dragoon 2 at the recent game show he visited. He said they told him it should be released here before Star Ocean 3 in the US, so that's gotta be by April I'm guessing. Anyways, why haven't we heard about this game, or seen a couple screenshots, I think it would have been seen by now. Anyways, I was wondering if it really was that close to release. Because I remember Sony springing Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits out of nowhere, I mean, I happened to come across some english screenshots when I didn't even know the game was released in Japan.

Anyways, sorry I compared you to that gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) dragon website, whatever it's called, it's for lamebrains!

-Joey

Your little manager is nothing but a liar. There haven't been any screenshots because the game doesn't exist. Don't hold your breath waiting to see it before Star Ocean 3.

Mmm...3D Espers.....

I've been playing rpgs for many-a-year and my absolute favorite is Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 in the US). With a few games being remade with up to date graphics like Metal Gear Twin Snakes, Wild Arms 1 and...well...thats all I can remember, is there any chance that Square would ever remake Final Fantasy 6 with up to date graphics? They gave us a little bit of a tease with the cutscenes in Final Fantasy Anthology so I was wondering if that was any indication that they were considering a remake of it.

Not likely at all. But it doesn't hurt to hope, right? I could certainly think of worse games to remake. However, I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to gaming. Take the re-release of FFIV as an example. The new script was technically better than the original, but I prefer the original. Silly me.

The power of Ys.

Hey, been a while since I wrote. Well, just thought I'd pop in and ask a question or two.

I wanna ask what Ys games have been released in the states. I'm pretty sure Ys III was released here, as I vaguely remember renting it, but it really wasn't very good compared to the others. :P I don't understand why Ys V wasn't brought here! It's such a good game... I guess my biggest concern is Ys VI. I just saw the trailer for it and was.... ... well... drooling. Heavily. If you haven't seen it, definately track it down, it's worth a watch even if you haven't even heard of the Ys series.

I read that Shining Force is making it's way to the GBA, huh? Hopefully the second, and greatest, will be coming soon after. Or did they already announce it and I didn't see? Well, either way, I'm looking forward to it, and any sequels for the series that come out. I'm still disappointed with how SF3 only had one of it's discs come to the states. Would be cool if they decided to remake them and release them for a newer console, but I don't see that happening... I was excited at first about the Shining Soul games, just them being somewhat linked with the SF series, but the first was pretty disappointing, like a diluted Diablo... Still addictive, like any online RPG would be, but nothing special... The second one seemed funner from what I played of it, but still not exactly groundbreaking, and still pretty simplistic in the character creation category. Oh well, maybe it's just me...

Guess that's it, cya!

-Poojipoo

Good old Ys. The first three games in the series have been favorites of mine for about ten years now. As far as I know, only the first three were ever avaliable here. Book I was avaliable on the Master System, the first three were avaliable on the Turbo CD, and Ys III was ported over to the Genesis and the SNES. Good games, all of them. A little simplistic, perhaps, but still entertaining.

Ys VI is certainly a fantastic looking game. I'm trying not to pay too much attention to it, because it'll just make me bitter. I swear, the good stuff never seems to make it over here.

Shining Force is one of the many games I was deprived of. I never had any Sega system, and my friends didn't either. Of course, they aren't RPG players, so they wouldn't have had these games anyway. Thankfully I was finally able to play the first three Phantasy Star games on the GBA.

A snowball's chance.

First off, thanks rpgfan staff. Anyway, I was just realizing that the game boy advance is a great system if you like the classics. All the great classic games are being remade on the gba, and all the sequels that we rpg lovers have been nagging companies forever for seem to be coming out in full force (FF Tactics 2, Finally!). Yeah yeah... but my question is do you have any info on a game that I guess was released in Japan called Suikoden card stories or something along those lines for the gba? Is konami planning to release it in the states? Anyway, I hope this letter gives you a nice break from all the letters concerning FFVII advent of children I know youll be getting. Well, hope you answer this, and if not I always have my gba to turn to for comfort...

I seriously doubt that a Suikoden card game would do well here. If I were you, I'd give up on ever seeing it localized for our consumption.

Actually, I didn't get a single letter regarding Advent Children. Either Liz really, really likes me or she really, really hates the person who is doing the Mailbag next.

Closing Thoughts

Well, I hope you had as much fun reading this as I did. Now, I must return to my lair and read some more self-insertion Kingdom Hearts fanfics. Good times, baby. Good times.

Be sure to send in your letters. Here's a hint for you: don't address them to Liz, because she probably ain't answering.
