Phantasy Star Online Gets Firm Release Date
Sega of America has finally announced an official release date for Phantasy Star Online, after reports that the game would release on a variety of dates, including January 23rd and early February. The game is now scheduled for a January 30th release and will ship with a Sonic Adventure 2 demo. And yes, Phantasy Star Online doesn't officially support the Dreamcast BroadBand Modem; however, you can still use it, though Sega of America doesn't guarantee a bug free experience.
New development information on Final Fantasy X. Of course, Final Fantasy VIII character designer Tetsuya Nomura created the characters in this installment, while Yoshinori Kitase directed and the script was written by Kazushige Nojima. Both men played the same roles in Final Fantasy VIII. The shockingly new addition to the lineup, however, is Front Mission's Toshiro Tsuchida, who is designing the battle system. A whole new magic system is reported to be in Final Fantasy's PlayStation 2 debut.
Disney and T&E Soft announced in Tokyo a development partnership to produce online games and create a site called "Disney Game World." Square is backing the deal, set to launch in 2002, and an RPG is already in development. No details other than the game will be multi-platform and will feature broadband gameplay.
In the January 18th morning issue of Nihon Keizai Shinbun, Nintendo announced a list of compatible games, i.e. data sharing, for the upcoming GameCube and Game Boy Advance due for realease in 2002. So far the only recognizable title is Pokemon, but the list should grow longer in the months leading up to the GameCube and Game Boy Advance's releases.
For all you hardcore dating sim fans, Konami will release the next chapter in the Tokimemo sidestory series. Titled Tokimeki Memorial 2 Substories: Leaping School Festival, the PlayStation 2 game will have a nihon release on March 29th and feature characters from Tokimeki Memorial 2.
Gust has given the PlayStation 2 installment of the Atelier series a Japanese release date. Atelier Lilie will release on DVD sometime in June for 6800 yen ($67.65 USD).
