Yasumi Matsuno Doesn't Rule Out Sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics

In a recent interview conducted by Weekly Famitsu, the director of Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story commented on the possibility of sequels to both. Matsuno-san said he would like to create a sequel to FFT; however, currently Square had no plans to pursue that option.

Furthermore, he voiced his intention to incorporate as many elements of Vagrant Story as possible in Final Fantasy XII; he is currently heading up the development of FFXII, along with Hiroyuki Ito.

Released in 1997, Final Fantasy Tactics was one of Square's early hits on PlayStation, selling more than 1.25 million copies in Japan. Despite receiving a perfect score of 40/40 from Famitsu, Vagrant Story wasn't received as well by the Japanese audience, selling not even 500,000 copies.
