Square Posts Losses

Square has released their financial results for the first half of the current fiscal year, running from April 1st 2001 until March 31st 2002. As expected and mentioned earlier by Square executives, mediocre to poor reception of Final Fantasy The Movie by audiences across the world has Square writing red numbers again. To be precise, Square has posted a loss of 3 billion yen (24.63 million USD) during that period. Sales were down 14% compared to the first two quarters of the previous fiscal year, at 19.2 billion yen (157.69 million USD).

According to Square, shipments of their major PlayStation 2 hit Final Fantasy X have exceeded 2.5 million copies since the game hit Japan on July 19th. No exact sales numbers were released. For the second half of the current fiscal year, Square is expecting a financially better situation, due to the release of All Star Pro Wrestling II and Kingdom Hearts for PS2.
