Sega of Japan has been instrumental in the creation of so many famous series throughout their years as a game developer. It seems almost ironic to a Western market that a hybrid dating sim/strategy RPG would be their cash cow of the moment. The Sakura Taisen series, spanning three main titles, as well as an upcoming fourth, has long been a curiousity to American gamers. Debates have long raged, discussing whether the game is really marketable in the states...
Like die-hard importers actually care about that. Instead, this update is dedicated to all the swanky merchandise that the Sakura series has spawned over the years...which is a lot. Here are just a few highlights from the various product galleries we've put together:
Products produced between the release of Sakura Taisen and Sakura Taisen 2 include a life-size Iris Chateaubriand, a ball-point pen that was included in the Windows release of Sakura Taisen, a Sakura Taisen sweatshirt, Sumire Darjeeling Tea, and covers for the Roman Club Magazine.
A great deal of character-specific merchandise followed after the release of Sakura Taisen 2, such as a model of Sakura in her bathing suit, an Orihime clock, and limited edition Sakura Taisen 2 Zippo Lighters. Only three designs were made; one featured Sakura, another Orihime, and finally Reni.
A flood of merchandise has already been produced since Sakura Taisen 3 debuted this past March. Interestingly enough, a model was produced for both Erica and her cool cross-gun. Wearable dresses modeled after the ones worn by Erica, Hanabi, Mel, and Ci are also sold, as well as ties inspired by the game.
The other pages below also include products for other Sakura Taisen games, such as the upcoming Online and Sakura Taisen GBC. Soundtracks are also available for your persusal.
Your best bets for finding some of the more common merchandise, such as soundtracks, models, would be Animenation or Tokyo Pop. As always for the more rare items, such as character clothes, e-Bay or special orders are your only hope. Happy hunting!
