Square has announced that its PlayOnline service will be free of charge. The original plan of introducing a monthly fee for the use of the entire service has been dropped; only the service's game content like the upcoming Final Fantasy XI will incur a monthly fee.PlayOnline is expected to officially launch alongside the release of Final Fantasy XI sometime in March 2002.
