WSC FFIII Vanishes, FFI-II Remake In The Works

Without any explanatory notice, Square has taken down the official website for the WonderSwan Color remake of Final Fantasy III. Originally announced over two years ago, this remake has been delayed several times, although remakes of FFI, II and IV are already out for Bandai's handheld. This may be the premise of the expected official cancellation of the game - Square has already mentioned the game would not be out any time soon, which we know often means never.

In other related news, sources are reporting a compilation of Final Fantasy I-II will be announced next week. Although the GBA seemed the most likely host for the compilation, it will supposedly appear on the PlayStation instead. It is not known yet whether the games will use the updated graphics of the WonderSwan Color remakes. A Final Fantasy I-II compilation had already seen the light of day in 1994, but for the Famicom, and without changes to the games. An official confirmation and more details on the compilation should be disclosed next week.
