Lunar: Legend Gets US Publisher

After last week's summit for the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association, distributor release dates were updated for North American retailers. One surprising entry on the list was Media Rings' revisit of the classic Game Arts RPG, Lunar. The game is just listed as Lunar, sans Legend, with Ubi Soft as the publisher; the game currently has a release date of November 14.

Our contact at Ubi Soft will be out of the office until Wednesday, and was therefore unable to comment on this story; we will follow up with them. Whether the game will retain the name Lunar or not is questionable; Working Designs, who localized the previous Lunar titles for the PlayStation and Sega CD (and who incidentally passed on the GBA version) have frequently said that they own the North American copyrights to the Lunar name. In other words, if anyone else wanted to do a Lunar title, they couldn't call it Lunar, at least according to Working Designs.
