Japan Online Gaming Survey Results Announced
01.27.04 - 6:18 AM

In a recent survey conducted by Info Plant, 300 Japanese aged between 10 and 59 were quizzed regarding their online gaming habits. 53% of the questioned were male, 47% female. 8% were between 10 and 19, 34% in their 20s, 39% between 30 and 39, 17% in their 40s and 2% above 50. Not so surprisingly the survey showed that the three most popular MMORPGs in the Land of the Rising Sun were Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI (45%, 136 mentions), Koei's Nobunaga's Ambition Online (19%, 58 mentions), and Ragnorak Online from NCSoft (11%, 33 mentions). 96% of the questioned said they were playing online games at home, while only 2% were using internet cafes with the remaining 2% playing at friends' places and other locations. Interestingly enough, the payment morale was not very high, as the survey found. 59% said they were only playing games free of charge. 19% were paying between 1,000 yen ($9.41 US) and 2,000 yen ($18.82 US), 16% up to 1,000 yen ($9.41 US), 4% between 2,000 yen ($18.82 US) and 3,000 yen ($28.23 US) and 2% between 3,000 yen ($28.23 US) and 4,000 yen ($37.63 US) per month. Among the users playing subscription-based titles, 24% were very displeased with the monthly fees, 48% somewhat displeased, 27% generally content and a mere 1% totally content.
