Stargate SG-1 MMO Announced

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has announced that it has gained the rights to the Stargate universe for a massively multiplayer online game. Stargate Worlds, which draws from the lore from both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, but little else has been announced about the title.

While this is Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's first title, the brass has a lot of oomph behind it. Joseph Ybarra, vice president of product development, has seen work on games like Wasteland, the 1989 precursor to Fallout as well as the MMOs Shadowbane and The Matrix Online. Art Director Stu Rose has worked on several Blizzard Entertainment titles, including Diablo and World of Warcraft.

While this is not the first game announced in the Stargate universe, the previous title, a FPS from developer Perception, Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, has apparently been cancelled.
