Square Enix Brings A Slew of Games Stateside
05.14.07 - 2:59 PM

Square Enix has announced they will be bringing four new titles across three different platforms to North America. Two of the titles hail from Japan's famed Dragon Quest series, and will see release on the DS and Wii.

Dragon Quest Monsters - Joker allows players to take control of a monster hunter as they attempt to capture more than 200 monsters from the Dragon Quest universe. DQ Monsters - Joker has already sold more than one million units in Japan, and combines the depth of the classic RPG series with the addictiveness of a monster-catching title Dragon Quest Monsters - Joker will be available sometime in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Probably the title most RPG fans with a Wii are waiting for, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors has been confirmed for North American release. Dragon Quest Swords will allow players to use the Wii's motion sensing controls to slash, parry, and slice through classic Dragon Quest foes. Dragon Quest Swords is developed with both new players and veterans alike in mind, but has not yet been given a North American release window.

Two games in the "Ivalice Alliance" will be hitting North American shores, as well. This set of titles are all set in the fantastic world of Ivalice, seen in Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. The two next titles confirmed to see the shelves of American retailers are Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions allows players to re-enact the events from Final Fantasy Tactics, which will see the tenth anniversary of its original Japanese release next month. Exclusively available for the PSP, The War of the Lions includes all-new CG sequences, brand new jobs, a presentation made to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio of the PSP, and head to head multiplayer components. The title will be released in October 2007. Oh, and I forgot to mention something to our European readers: it will be seeing a simultaneous release in your region, as well.

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has also been confirmed for English-speaking audiences. Available only for the Nintendo DS, Revenant Wings uses full touch screen controls to allow players to control gargantuan armies, utilize special moves, and set gambits. Directed by Motomu Toriyama with music by Hitoshi Sakimoto, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings will see release this coming winter.
