Final Fantasy XI: A Crystalline Prophecy is the first of three mini-expansions that cost an even 10.00 USD each. The other two releases, A Moogle Kupo d'Etat and A Shantotto Ascension. are planned for release later in 2009.

The new expansion came alongside a series of content updates and adjustments released on April 17, 2009 worldwide.
