E3: EA Press Conference
No big announcements, but a release window for ME2.
06.01.09 - 7:07 PM

While EA's press conference was very impressive, even if the RPG news was slim. BioWare's three babies, Dragon Age Origins, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Mass Effect 2 were both on display, although the only big news of the two is that Mass Effect 2 will be seeing release early next year for both Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

Dragon Age Origins is being hyped as one of the darkest and most mature RPGs that BioWare has ever made, said to be the culmination of 15 years of development experience at BioWare. BioWare founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk said that the game will blur the lines of morality, making players question which decisions are right and wrong. Dragon Age Origins will see release for the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms on October 20.

Mass Effect 2 will see release sometime early next year, and will follow the story of Shepard, the hero from the first game. While Shepard was supposedly KIA during an earlier mission, one of the characters during the trailer exclaimed, "Shepard! But, you're dead!" He will head up this mission which has little hope of survival, but means everything to the survival of the human race. While EA announced the title seeing release for Xbox 360 and PC early next year, they did not mention its exclusivity to those platforms.

There's still no gameplay footage of Star Wars: The Old Republic, but that didn't keep BioWare from breaking a bombshell about the game: every piece of dialogue in the game will be fully voiced. According to EA, it is one of the largest voice acting projects ever conceived, and will allow the game to be much more emotionally engaging than any other MMO on the market.

Keep watch to RPGFan later this week as we get some hands-on time with both Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2.
