Soundtracks: Atelier Rorona, 7th Dragon, Fire Emblem, More
A much-needed "new albums" update to help you pick out some of the best new stuff.
07.03.09 - 12:10 AM

I'm not going to lie to you. This soundtracks update is pretty awesome.

First up, we have a full trio of Gust soundtracks for you to learn about. Most important among them is the OST for Atelier Rorona. This PlayStation 3 RPG, and its soundtrack, were just released last week. The two disc soundtrack isn't too shabby, I must say.

Also on the Gust pile is "Atelier Vocal Historia 1997~2009," a three disc soundtrack that contains just what you would expect it too. Finally, we have the ever-elusive Hymmnos Orgel Collection "Kara*Cola" for the Ar tonelico series. The arrangements are done by composer/vocalist Akiko Shikata. You'll not want to miss this music box delight!

Next up? How about some 7th Dragon? About a month ago, we posted a review of the game's massive, four disc OST from Yuzo Koshiro. Today we add a limited promotional album of unused music from the game (called "fragment"), as well as the much-anticipated Super Arrange Version, "Live Music By Piano & Strings." This arranged album was also released a week ago (on the same day as the Atelier Rorona OST, in fact), and we have a review. This is probably some of the quickest turn-around you'll ever see here at RPGFan Soundtracks, so enjoy it.

On the other end of the spectrum, we know we are lagging on our Fire Emblem music coverage. This is evidenced by the fact that today's post marks the first time we've ever reviewed a soundtrack from this series. Pathetic, I know. Well, forgive us, and be sure to read Josh Lewis's review for Fire Emblem: New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light OST (that's the DS game Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon in the US, in case you weren't aware). Also, if you own another soundtrack in this series (there are at least a dozen more albums out there) and would like to review one, don't be afraid to speak up!

Finally, we have a review for the Makai Senki Disgaea 3 Raspberyl Chapter OST. Lots of repeat tracks from the Disgaea 3 OST itself are to be found, but considering this new album is a retail release from Team Entertainment, and the older album was a promotional "comes with the Japanese game" kind of deal, it's probably worth your attention. Tenpei Sato is still all kinds of cool.

Next update? Expect us to go in the opposite end of the game music timeline with some serious retrospective. Hint: it will involve Glory of Heracles. We'll have some other tag-along album reviews to go with this upcoming "themed" update.
