Valkyria Chronicles to be told on PSP
This time it's more than just a typo. It's also a sequel.
07.16.09 - 5:13 PM

Sega is working on a sequel to last year's critically acclaimed PlayStation 3 title Valkyria Chronicles (Senjou no Valkyria). The sequel, being developed for the PSP, is titled Senjou no Valkyria 2: Gallia Ouritsu Shikan Gakkou (Royal Military Academy of Gallia).

The game is developed by the same team that already worked on the original title. The developers are also using the very same CANVAS engine that already provided the unique visuals of the PlayStation 3 game. Sega promises a greater degree of customization options for growing platoons. Various elements, e.g. school activities or uniforms, will change according to the season.

The game takes place two years after the massive conflict depicted in the first game. As the title suggests, the game tells the story of military cadets dispatched to the frontline to suppress an uprising in the southern part of Gallia. The game's concept is to contrast the normal daily life at the school with the abnormal world of war.

Valkyria Chronicles 2's protagonist is a 17-year old hot shot by the name of Avant. He enrolls in the military academy to find out the truth behind the mysterious death of his older brother who himself was a student there. Other characters include Avant's partner Jelly, who is a calm and rational Darcsen, his very upbeat classmate Cosette, and a mysterious girl who wields the spear and shield of the Valykrie.

Senjou no Valkyria 2: Gallia Ouritsu Shikan Gakkou for PlayStation Portable will go on sale in Japan this winter.
