Persona 3 PSP, FF Gaiden Off to Strong Start in Japan
As each portable RPG sell more than 100,000 copies.
11.05.09 - 3:58 PM

In the shadow of the two major multiplatform titles Bayonetta and Tekken 6, two portable RPGs managed to sell more than 100,000 copies during the first days of their availability in Japan. The PlayStation Portable remake of Atlus' critically acclaimed Persona 3 managed to sell 108,000 copies, thereby outselling all other recent entries in Atlus's flagship series including Devil Survivor (DS, 57,000 copies), Persona (PSP, 95,000 copies) and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (DS, 97,000 copies).

Meanwhile, Square Enix's old-school DS RPG Final Fantasy Gaiden: Hikari no 4 Senshi (Four Warriors of Light) sold 120,000 copies. And while this performance is not quite in the same league as recent high-profile DS releases such as Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate (206,000 copies), Chrono Trigger DS (276,000 copies), or Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (291,000 copies), the newest Final Fantasy game was still off to a better start than Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (102,000 copies), and SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny (101,000 copies).
