Hyperdimension Neptunia Detailed & Gallery Update
A whole lot on the battle system: Your PlayStation 3 is going to war.
11.21.10 - 2:24 AM

With all the buzz since the announcement late last month that Hyperdimension Neptunia was on its way over to North America (and later Europe), NIS America's Ryan Phillips yesterday talked about the game over on the Official PlayStation Blog, providing quite a few details. So far, we've seen some media and heard a little about this PS3 title, which apparently entails video game consoles taking the form of goddesses. How does this work?

The world of Hyperdimension Neptunia is called Gamindustri, and you can likely already see where this is going if you couldn't already. It has four areas: Planeptune, Lastation, Leanbox and Lowee. The purple-haired Neptune as you know, is your main character, although Compa and IF (likely representations of two of the game's developers, Compile Heart and Idea Factory) are also helping her rescue Histoire, although the main villain Arfoire is a slight problem. Neptune will meet more personification- er, characters auspiciously named Noire, Vert et Blanc. In case your French is a tad rusty, these three ladies have the goddess forms of Black, Green and White Heart, respectively, and as expected there might be a joke or two at the expense of the consoles they represent. There are even more characters in Gamindustri that you'll meet but haven't been introduced quite yet.

Gameplay wise, you'll have a lot of options in battle. The menu isn't a traditional RPG one, rather by using X and O you string together a combination of attacks. Depending on the combination, will have the options of powerful blows... or maybe even a longer combo chain if you use an ability called Skill Link. Another ability called Transform gives you access to a CPU's HDD, which is short for Console Patron Unit's Hard Drive Divinity. In other words, your character will take on their slightly more revealing goddess form. Yet another useful option in battle is Switch, meaning you can swap in one character for another - even in the middle of a combo. These are just the basics though, and new abilities are unlocked as you level up.

So far Hyperdimension Neptunia is listed as a February 2011 release in North America, and March 4th, 2011 in Europe. We've updated our gallery, linked below, and NIS America is promising a trailer for the game soon, so keep checking back!
